Oh my you have been busy.

I've been removing old rose bushes myself, too many leaf skeletonizers, beetle larvae, aphids, too much fungus, not enough blooms. And too many thorns. It's goodbye.

If the monsoon ever ends, I have some daylilies and peonies to divide and/or give away...

Sounds like you'll need a massage! (I'm a massage therapist) It's so hard for me to do all of that because my work takes a big toll on my body - aches, pains.

Since I started my garden redo from the plain suburban backyard with lots of grass and a ho-hum shrub or two I have been working non stop on this garden. Each year I work thru July and August as well as well as the spring and fall. And each year I say to myself that if I just get this done this year, next year I will not have to work thru the entire summer. Somehow it never works out that way.

But things have come along better than expected with the roses as I have decided that since I can easily plant the empty spots with the roses waiting for new homes I can get the one part of the rose garden done. The end of Floribundaville will mostly be waiting for locally bought boxed roses in the early spring. I am going to see if I can figgure out anyway I can plant iris at the very end, I have to study it but I think its doable.

Then the one part in my sideyard rose bed were I did not fininish re-arranging all the roses, still has plenty of room to plant what I have now and thats exactly what I am going to do. The heck with it. I can re-arrange that section next spring. Who knows, with the new additions and some of those other roses moved out, I might even decide I like it and don't need to do more re-arranging.

I already started planting the roses and planted 6 and am going out to plant more. These are in tiny bands, about a fourth of the size of a gallon pot and maybe six inches deep, so its really easy to plant them. The arrangeing them takes longer for me than the planting as I want to get them right. Don't want to have to do the new section over again next year.

Please don't ask trick questions:-)) I had hoped to plant them in the front yard were there is no room left. If I had moved the Oriental lilies, I could have had another third row of daylilies and plant them there. But I just liked the looks of that mass planting of lilies to much to mess with it. Also the zinnias running along the top. It was just an idea to get color for the summer and I love it and plan to leave it that way getting zinnias each year.

I do have alittle space left in that front yard area for them but I don't stay off the Lily Auction and keep bidding on more Westbournes. I just need more room.

I also am bidding on another of hers. I noticed you had a couple. Those lilies are beautiful. I'm sure I saw a little more grass.

I have to stay off the LA this winter or my goose is cooked. I can't fill up every little cranny I have left, what will I do the year after.

Yes, there is grass in the area in front of that area by the little tree garden and the annual garden. In my mind I plan to put a garden bed like a long rectangle in there. Had thought of it this spring and was so overloaded that I couldn't get to it. Not about to do it this fall either so maybe next spring.

Actually I will see once all this moving around of daylilies is done what room I have left.

I guess I will have to start kicking out daylilies some day. I still have low budcount wonders here and I have daylilies that while I don't hate them, I am not cazy about them and if they were gone, I would never give them another thought. I can't seem to bring myself to toss out a daylily unless its a poor doer. I have no problem tossing roses out of the garden that don't meet my strick ideas of what I want to see or want to be garden hogs. But with the daylilies its different.

Ha! Don't kid yourself. A garden is never quite right in the owner's eyes. You think you have the perfect plan, and the next year, you're at it again. Either moving, adding or dividing. Would be pretty boring to just walk around the yard looking at plants. It's a great stress releiver too, but don't overdo it. Pics too once you're happy with it.

I think it would be heaven to just have the normal mantenience for a garden and spend my days just walking around and looking at everything. Plus take pictures of course!

Gosh Rita, you have been super busy today. I would love to be able to just sit outside one day and not do anything in the yard. But, with almost 2 acres there is always something to do. Maybe one day I will have it filled up to my liking.

Well, I only went back outside later and watered stuff I had planted the past few days. Had work to do tonight on the computer so needed to get started. Just as well, because I want to think on various alternative groupings for those roses before I get them planted.

Here some pictures of the poor rose bed after I have taken the roses out of this section.

In this one you can see the poor wilted shrub rose replanted by the trellis. You can also see some of the roses that I never got around to moving more in the front of the picture.

I need to do some prunning of the shrubrow that I have planted accross from this rose bed as some of the shrubs have grown much taller than I thought they could. Still, most of the shade come from the branches of my neighbors cutleaf maple that overhang the property. I have spoken to him about trimming the branches back and its on the project list. He wants to have the tree guy come and thin the tree so that more light comes thru underneath on his property and I would pay the guy at the same time to take back those branches hanging over. Pays to get along well with your neighbors.

I am still working on the placement of the little roses but am stuck mostly inside today as I have some work that will take a long time that absolutely has to be done today.

I am surprised we didn't get a picture of the post planting bed. You move fast, Girl!

Gardening in a lot of cases is never done. My husband asked me the other day if my 'sitting garden' turned out the way I planned. I said yes, but he doesn't know that I still have other plans for it and am looking for ways to enhance it.

You are lucky that you get along with your neighbor. We have neighbors that we get along with also and feel very fortunate. They have some cedar trees that if my husband hadn't cut off the lower limbs, they would be a full twenty-thirty feet on our property by now. He keeps them cut back and we can all walk under the tree. The neighbors can also get to their dog pen:)

Glad to see that you are making progress and still have plans for changes next year.

No picture because its not done. I am busy out in the garden pulling weeds and cutting back both lily and daylily scapes. I really need to get to planting those roses but I try to do the most urgent things first. Those lilies certainly can't be allowed to drop seed. And some weeds need to be pulled as one goes along before they get to take over.

Its funny but no matter how much progress I make, I never seem to reach the end of my todo list.

I dragged myself back in from the garden for the day. I have 13 more roses to plant. This out of 26 that I had here to plant. I still have 6 more roses coming in September. The difficult part for me of these little things is the arranging and spacing, which I have a big grouping going in that emply section pictured above. I have them sitting in their little pots arranged the way I want them now all ready to go inground. This is really going to look great once they grow up abit. Its going to be a riot of color and thats what I like.

Wow Rita, you made me tired just reading about all you have done today.

Can't wait to see the roses in bloom next summer, it sounds lovley.

I did get most of the odd garden chores done but I need to get these roses planted so that I can get back to my daylily digging and moving. When I have the roses done and get back to the daylilies, I will feel like I have made great progress even on the daylilies even though nothing new was done daylily wise. I feel that way because the big roses project was always weighing heavily on my mind even when I was working on the daylilies. I just knew it needed to be done and done soon. I will be very happy to have it finished and be done with it. Of course, when those roses grow some and start to bloom I will totally forget about all the work it was to get the garden done.
