Your Blue Mouse Ears is a beauty. Those flowers look enormous compared to the plant. It will be something for my brand new baby to aspire to. I put a little mouse with ears I painted blue beside him for encouragement.

All the mini's I have were sprayed by the lawn guy and are making a very slow recovery. The Japanese painted ferns in the same bed suffered too. They are planted beside a narrow grass walk way between two hosta beds so caught the drift of the spray. My Hubby likes his grass but next year that area of grass will be removed and stepping stones will go in there to eliminate the chance of that ever happening again. Connie

BME has been planted in a raised bed of loose stacked stone since 2014. Yes, there are voles in my yard and possibly in that bed. I've been battling them all Summer in a ground level hosta bed across the way. Humm, leave it be, I like the sound of that! I feel like I should add a little soil or leaf mulch on some of the exposed roots. BME may be doing a 'fairy' ring thing. Is that a reason to dig it up in the Spring? I think I read some folks here dig out the center, add soil and theirs have filled in... or am I confusing it with ornamental grass...?

Actually you can name it whatever you want ....and register it too ...although if it is similar to another it's probably not a good idea to register....:-).....each sport is a new plant....this is according to some of the big wigs I was sitting and talking with at a convention a few years back.

debra..thank you!..I try to be mature about it but winter is too long..😢 popmama..thank you!..trees are important to me..I refused to look at houses that didn't have any trees..absolutely true.. newhostalady..thank you!..I do appreciate my setting..can you imagine how unpleasant this garden would be seeing the neighbors bad choices full view without my trees and plants?..I hope nothing here dies..I need every leaf that I have Lol.. tj..thank you!..I didn't know how long it could take for a climbing hydrangea to bloom until after I bought it!..but it's fine..it adds a little change from the other tree trunks..I remember that photo of your hydrangea!..I was flabbergasted when I saw it..I've never seen a pic of another one that came even close to yours..

Yes Ken you're right. I have left BME undisturbed for the first 3 years...and it grew in a lot of sun. Now it's time to move it in shade...to get that nice blue foliage like yours.

Here's a few pics of my BME (I got it in 2005.) Last year it came up with about 14 eyes, this year I tried to count them and there are 30+ eyes so far!! Not sure if they are all "active eyes" or if some of them are dormant? but that's how many I counted today... I wish I would have taken a picture of the eyes just coming up... the crown of BME is SOOOO tight, the eyes are just crammed together.
