You have spearmint... "Follow your nose"

Enjoy your mojitos - I just made some myself, last weekend. Used Mount Gay Rum. Pretty good stuff. If you don't have a perfect recipe, I found that making them can be tricky. Mine never tasted quite right, and I kept changing the proportions. Adding a bit more of this and a bit more of that, continuously sipping to taste for the right mixture. I probably drank a few drinks' worth just trying to figure it out. By the time I had, I had had enough!

Uh-oh. So you're saying that I can't believe everything she tells me? Makes for a thought-provoking Mojito, however.

So how about the stuff that is taking over the bamboo barrel? Is that mint? See the pic-link.

Whatever that is also makes for a pretty good Mojito, but isn't nearly as aromatic - which may not be a bad thing.

PS: Out of curiosity, where'd the spearmint come from? I'm pretty sure we didn't plant it either.

You've got spearmint. Lucky you - it's the best-tasting and most versatile of all the mints, IMO.

If you didn't plant it, the birds dropped in a gift with a seed in it, or the seeds arrived by wind from somewhere else. It propagates by every method known to mankind.

I agree that Mount Gay is the best one for mojitos but I like what I received as apple mint. Keep trying different mints until you find one you like.

I agree with daisyduckworth that you might have received it from birds. Or as I get strangers from the soil of one of the plants I bring home.

Taste? Smell? Mints do cross-pollinate very easily.

To me it looks like peppermint family. Take a leaf and sniff. one of the problems with mints is that they interbreed. Unless you know the source and get a cutting from it you could have a mint that is heinz 57 and it probably is.
