Dried or fresh mint leaves for...

Mint Vodka? All of the recipes I've found so far call for dried mint leaves. One recipe called for blanching fresh leaves, then blotting them dry before combining them with vodka and letting it set for a number of weeks. Wouldn't blanching cause a loss of essential oils?

I usually use vodka to make catnip solution for mosquito repellant and I use fresh catnip leaves, but it has a "green" smell along with the catnip smell. Would the fresh mint leaves cause a similar green smell? I rarely drink vodka, but I thought it might be nice with mint. I'll be using Chocolate Mint.

Any advice(or recipe)is greatly appreciated.
