lol Thanks for the comments and suggestions, people, I really appreciate it. I know that this is all just a work in process and most likely never-ending. The white stones rolling onto the sidewalk makes me laugh, because I am already constantly kicking them back onto their pile. lol I'll have to do something with the hedge, I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm still a little unsure of what you mean, catkim. If you read this, could I trouble you to explain one more time, please? Thanks in advance! Also, the fine mulch is a good idea, I think. The mulch that I had and returned were actually pretty large chunks. I like the idea of dealing with less weeds, I just spent a bit of time digging a whole whack of them out of this little area. Can I buy compost at a garden store? Should it be put down first, as a fertilizer, before any mulch is thrown down? Another question about the hedge: If I have mulch down and then I start to trim my hedge, I can see this being a pretty big headache trying to pick up the trimmed pieces of hedge from amongst my mulch on the ground. Any suggestions here? I'm sure I'll think of more questions, but I do thank you again everyone. PS, looking at these last pictures I've posted, my garden looks absolutely sad. I'm sure many of you wouldn't dare post them if this were yours. It is looking better already though, I assure you. Thanks! Andy

Last year I planted Corsican Mint as a lawn substitite. We live on a slope are are hoping to get rid of the grass completely, as it is hard to mow. The Corsican mint is flourishing here in our woodlands (shady) Pac NW setting. It stayed green all winter, even through freezing temps. And it never needs to be mowed. Yeah! We grew the mint from seed in 4" pots and divided them into little 1" clumps, given that we needed several hundred pots (our lawn is huge), and buying all of those pots would have cost us thousands. The seed was inexpensive. We planted the clumps 12" apart and by the end of summer, most of it was filled in. The only problem is that weeds and grass can pop through the mint, although I think this problem will be aleviated as the mint forms that lush dense carpet, as it is doing now. Corsican Mint is great for foot traffic, and it smells amazing when you walk on it. The tiny scale is gorgeous, like something out of a fairy tale. We have lots of neighborhood cats and I thought they would be attracted to the smell and eat it up. However, we have not run into that problem.

Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to advise me where I can get a substantial amount of seed for a reasonable price. I am not even sure how much I need. I have a 25 X 14 area covered with flagstones. Around all the flagstones is just dirt. It is very ugly and I thought I could make it prettier by planting some groundcover in between the stones. I am debating trying to plant corsican mint or maybe even elfin thyme in between flagstones in this backyard patio area. I searched online and strangely enough had a hard time finding seeds for sale. I found one place that sold large amounts of the seed but they said they were sold out for 09... go figure! Also I am curious on people's opinions on using this for a groundcover in between flagstones. I will be using it behind my house which gets indirect sunlight. Some areas are a little shady. Should I put good quality top soil down in between flagstones before planting? How long does it take to grow? I thought about buying the plants.. but the idea of having to cut them up to fit this size area.. and the cost of doing so doesn't seem worthwhile. Does corsican mint grow well from seed? Any other ones that I should consider? Thanks in advance!!!
