Baby Lamb is beautiful! I love that coloring.

I am a huge fan of Reckamp's blends. I finally was able to get Garden Symphony & Apricot Serenade this spring. That ate up a huge part of my daylily budget!!! Waiting for them to bloom.

Both are lovely!

I LOVE Baby Lamb. Here it is in my garden last year.

I have both of those and love PC, but BL is a newbie so I haven't seen her blooms yet. Hopefully she'll bloom for me next season. I usually love all of Bell's dl's.

Heres a variety that I grow that I have not heard or seen much about, but it does fairly well for me. Its hard to tell because it was sunny when I took the pic, but the throat is more green than yellow like it looks. It kinda glows in the shade.

The first time I went to a local daylily seller (Doris' Daylilies in Wirtz, Va) many years ago Raspberry Sundae was the only one that I really fell in love with. It was created by Andre Viette & looks just like the photographs on Tinker's Garden Daylily Database. I think the combination of a clear raspberry self with that deep golden throat is just beautiful. I almost never see it offered.

P.S. - Raspberry Sundae is mid-late season bloomer and is a good rebloomer (Tinker's Database doesn't show this info, but Andre Viette's website does and he should know since he hybridized it!!) Ironically, Andre's website picture of RS is (sorry, Andre) not at all like the beautiful color I saw!

I'm bumping this up. Surely someone else knows the names of some great relatively unknown daylilies that they're willing to share.

I tried to pick some daylilies that are not often mentioned but that performed well this year and in preceding years. As waitforspring mentioned earlier, Pocket Change is one of my little known, but favorite daylilies.

Here is Prairie Blossoms. It started blooming in mid June, and rebloomed this year, just finishing recently.

Pink Lavender Appeal has a gorgeous color, lots of blooms, and is fragrant. Some years is also produces prolifs.

Sugar Candy is an older, Allen Wild introduction. I love the shape, the color, and the throat color makes it look like it's on fire!

Vintage Wine has rich, multiple colors.

The colors on Codyted are so pretty, it is pretty as a single flower too. Most days, though, it is a double.

Early Look produced more flowers this year at one time, than any of my other plants. And it's an early bloomer here too.

Almost every flower on Louise Mercer was perfect in shape and color. It's hard to describe such pretty colors on these flowers.

Ming Porcelain is a nice shade of peachy-pink and when it blooms, it's like seeing a old friend each year.

Thanks Linda and Juliet for showing us some beauties. I've picked up some of my favorites at club sales or in trade by trying something I never would have known about. Here's one I got last year that so far has really impressed me.
Voices of Spring

Juliet, is Salty Skipper consistently that gorgeous Color? Iron Eyes has been on my Wish List. And, I saw Dabo Girl on the website of a daylily farm on the other side of the state from me. I had thought about buying it too. The color is so gentle. Nice form too! I have Missouri Memories,another cream with pink eye, but it pulls it's petals and sepals back quite often and you loose the pretty shape.

Sue141452, I am a sucker for the tangerine throats. Allen Wild hybridized many with this color of throat.

Voices Of Spring is so pretty waitforspring. Is it an early bloomer?

Linda, you would think with a name like Voices of Spring it would be an early bloomer. It's listed as EarlyMid, but for me it started mid season. It had at least twice as many flowers as any other plant that I had just planted last August.

Linda - it's hard to for me to capture the true colors of my daylilies. Salty Skipper has a hint more peach than the color in the photo. Dabo Girl does have great form and ruffling. She's also tall. I got her as a bonus from Manatawny Creek Farm - maybe that's where you saw her? (I was very happy with my order but it has changed owners since then.)

Yep, Juliet. That is where I saw her. I had also read about the new owners taking over. I'm in Western PA and I just wish I was closer to Manatawny Creek Farm. I'd love to go for a visit. They have some nice pictures of other little known gems that look interesting. Did you buy anything else from there? Dabo Girl is relativly inexpensive, so maybe I'll put her on the list for next year. Can I assume that she is also very hardy?

Missouri Memories

My Missouri Memories is not the hardiest plant for northerners. I had thought that I had lost it in the spring after we had a very late freeze. I started with 2 fans bought last summer and they lived in a pot until we moved, at end of July. They were planted then, in the heat and humidity and drought. This spring, one fan came up and the other just sat there. I could see the top of it, but it didn't grow. Then the freeze came and the non-growing one disappeared completely, only to come back and catch up with the other one. It also brought two friends with it. I now have another increase fan, so right now I have 5 fans. I hope it does better over this winter and gets established.

'Mint Condition' is another great performer for me this year. The blooms are yellow, but on cooler mornings they're flushed with a hint of copper on the edges.

Here are a few of my little known gems.

IOLITE, a tet by Van Sellers, is a great front of the border daylily that blooms for a long time. As a parent it's extraordinary, setting pods on the hottest days even with weak pollen.

JUNE VALENTINE, a dip by Sikes, has the highly saturated color I crave on a very nice rebloomer.

ATTIC ANTIQUE, a dip by Ra Hansen, has pretty color and form and is a good rebloomer.

Here's a couple that came to mind as soom as saw the title of this post. I love both of these (like I don't say that about everyone of them in my garden) and they are great performers..except maybe HEAVENLY CROWN could be a little less skimpy with the blooms.
