No one took a shot at this so I will give it a try. Most daylilies do bloom in approxamatly a 6 week period called peak bloom. You can extend this somewhat by getting a mix of early and late ones along with the mid season bloomers but there is never going to be months of bloom.

Daylilies need a good amount of sun so watch the sun pattern to make sure each side of your proposed bearm gets enough sun and is not totally shaded by the other side. Plus, in my opinion, you would need to plant them thickly in order to hold the bearm.

They are just not going to give you much in the way of added height. If it was me, I would go for shrubs or ornamental grasses at the top of the bearm and daylilies going down the side that you see from your house. Just a thought.

I do not think daylilies would make a good border screen. In my experience, most daylilies do not bloom for six weeks. Unless you have mature clumps, you would not have enough flower stalks to block out anything.

Try hollyhocks, tall roses, or Rose of Sharon for an effective border screen.

I agree with above. If you're looking for a sound barrier, maybe you should consider evergreens for year-round noise buffering. I like Rita's suggestion of planting something, whatever it is, towards the top and having the daylilies as a "skirt" at the bottom.

Thanks, you've given me some great ideas. I've been looking at a number of other options. Maybe Burning Bushes, do Daylilies on the house side for my pleasure, pachysandra on the street side, with tall grasses to fill in. Do you think that is better? I don't want evergreens if they are pines or similar to arborvitae because of our ice storms in northern Ohio near Cleveland. Also trying to keep the maintenance down. Am I on the right track now? I personally love the idea of shrubs along the top and ornamental grasses on the street side and daylilies were you can see them on the inside. Look into the taller varieties of miscanthus and there are also very tall growing varieties of switchgrass. Grasses add lots to a landscape, they add movement and sound as they sway in the breeze.

Please don't plant burning bush, its horribly invasive spread by seeds. Surely you can find nice hardy shrubs that look good and maybe even bloom. If you like to attract backyard birds many shrubs produce berries that they love to eat. Arrowood Viburnams, Winterberries, Serviceberry in either shrub or small tree form. Also maybe butterfly bush if you would like some butterflies to come around.

Do a double row of shrubs and stagger them so that the second row each shrub lines up with the space between the shrubs on the first row. If you want a faster screen, plant somewhat closer than the recommended distance apart. Those shubs will be fine, take it from me, I have planted dozens.

If you decide to look into shrubs I would definately check out the Ninebarks (physocarpus). We have 2 "Coppertina" in a mixed bed and we always get inquiries from visitors at to what they are because they are so beautiful. From the exfoliating bark to the flower heads that turn a deep scarlet once the flowers drop.....this is truely an awesome performer. Ours grew from a 1 gallon pot size plants to about 6 ft. in height in as little as 2 yrs time.
