How do I prune a huge Hibiscus? Any experts out there?!?!?!

I just moved here and there is a huge hibiscus that I want to cut back but I've never done it before. It's about 10 ft.X 10 ft.Should I just go for it or is there a better time to do it? I think it's a Luna, not sure. White with pink center. Also does it make seeds? I would love to have a few to trade. But I don't see any seed pods on it. Any other info would be great as well so I can care for it properly. I did notice that white flies and spiders love it too. What can I use to deter them? Soap and water? I'm no expert but hated to see your inquiry sit for a week with no responses. :-) Without seeing a closer image, I'm guessing that is a Hibiscus syriacus 'Red Heart' (Rose of Sharon). They can be pruned in late fall, early spring. There are some sterile cultivars that don't produce seeds. You can get lots of good "starts" from the softwood cuttings when you prune.

A...there are a couple of factors you need to understand about fruiting avocado trees. These factors may give you hope. Firstly, many avocado varieties are strong alternate bearers. Because one year is bad...do not lose hope. Secondly, even in a good fruiting year...many small avocados drop. Often this drop occurs a second time in June. As for what you can do...avos love water. Make sure there is moisture (especially during heat spells) in the root zone. Avoid standing water. Of course, fertilizing with an avocado/citrus fertilizer never hurts. Hang in there....you may have a winner.

I'm new to owning hibiscus tropical but, I ended up in the same situation where I bought about 10 1 gal pots and each had about 4 plants each. I separated them into their own pot. That's just me.

yay what great tress you have there! you can certainly give them a trim and shape them up. if you want them to branch out from the cuts them cut just after a node on the branch so that it will grow from the node. those are definitely tall enough at this point that i would think more tree shape than bush.

Ok, thanks. I did see that one or 2 of the above posters put them in a skillet with butter for a minute or 2, but didn't think that would actually make them crispy. Not that they have to be crispy, I was just wondering what jxbrown meant by crispy. I would try it again, as between my husband, my son & I we did eat it all. I used a box grater & found it to be a messy process. Then I saw islay corbel's picture above & it gave me an idea - I have a top chips chip maker - it is supposed to be used to make potato chips in the microwave. My son tried it once & it didn't work very well, but it looks alot like the picture above, except some of the holes are bigger in the chips maker and the chips maker is more lke a rubber material, but I think I'll try it next time anyway. Another thing is I was serving it with leftover pork & didn't have any gravy, which I think is key. I'm actually 1/4 German myself, but my mom didn't really cook German food & neither she nor my Gradma had ever made saubraten or spaetzle, so I'm proud of myself for giving them both a try!
