Blooms in VA Zone 6/7

Garden tours were yesterday. We're a bit past peak but there were plenty of blooms. I didn't get time for any pictures yesterday, but these were blooming over the past few days.

Blooming nearby was Tutti Frutti Curls- I didn't quite get it in focus. Hate it when that happens!

Luddy's Florida Scrub Jay looked pretty good this AM:

and his HYACINTH MACAW looks funkier every time it blooms!

I'm very fond of Judy Davisson's plants. They all do very well here. Here's one of her funky little ones called LITTLE BIG EARS:

Her MEAN GREEN continues to be amazing. Two club members who saw it yesterday have already tried to talk me out of a piece of it ( not dividing it until after Regional tour next summer) This was taken this AM:

FRONT PORCH SWING reminds me greatly of J.T. Davis:

KENNESAW MOUNTAIN HAYRIDE looked more "orangey" last year. Today it looked distinctly pink. Not sure why!

BOB MARLEY has been vibrant this season:

and Vic Santa Lucia's ART ATTACK has been spectacular. My friend Tee Money sent it to me because it was too dormant for her Z. 8 garden! It likes it here.

Absolutely lovely, floota! My personal favorites are Tutti-frutti curls, Mean Green, and Bob Marley. I like seeing what your daylilies are paired with as well! :)

Absolutely beautiful blooms. I know your garden tour was a smashing sucess. My very favorite is a surprise to me, MEAN GREEN. It is not my usual preferred form but wow, what a stunner. Beautiful colors and a stunning picture. Second favorite that I also really love is ART ATTACK. Love the hot pink and all those ruffles.

Don't worry about it going away. I planted one of these a few years ago and it tries to pop up every where. This plant easily reseeds (maybe considered invasive) and I always try to either dig them up or make sure to cut them back after flowering. I find it rather difficult to remove some large seedlings by hand and have to actually use a tool to dig them up.

Sorry to be so granular but I am clueless...Would I dig them up, shake off most of the soil, transport them in a moist medium (say wet newspapers around the roots in a plastic bag) get them to my sister and she would then soak the roots in a bucket until she can plant them? It's quite hot in NYC these days. Although I gather from everyone's posts, we all are having an early, hot spring. Thank you for all your help!

trying to grow pure Changsha in zone 7a would be a stretch, most likely it's not going to work out, but you may have a chance in zone 7b (especially the warmer half of zone 7b) if you live in the South. I have tasted the fruit of what I believe was a Morton citrange. The fruit entirely looked like a delicious orange, very inviting, but biting into it it had an awful flavor that I can only describe as putrid, and it made me want to immediately spit it out. I was told there was one other person who tasted it that found it to taste acceptably edible and could eat it. From what I have researched, I think many other Poncirus hybrids don't taste as bad as this Morton citrange, though they usually do tend to have a similar flavor. As for the US 852 hybrid, I have seen a video where a guy said he was even able to manage to enjoy eating them. Though I suspect he probably had more "adventurous" tastes that many people.

Floota, You have, as always gorgeous blooms beautifully photographed.There are so many to satisfy those of us who love purples and reds. Toucan Sam is really, really lucious. I am very fond of Lucky Streak and the pictures of Amethyst Tears and Alechymist are beautifully showcased. I love Karol Emmerich's and your are a real ad for them, and Michael Davisson is beautiful! Altogether a very satisfying visual vist to your garden. kay

MEAN GREEN is picture perfect.

NO BOYS ALLOWED is so pretty - I can't tell from the picture, but can you tell me if it's a good bloomer with lots of buds? I'm trying not to put EVERY daylily I like on my wish list so I'm trying to be pickier but this one is going on.

What interesting daylilies! I really love Creation Rejoices, Get Jiggy and Mean Green. The pairing of No Boys Allowed with the liatris is wonderful!

Oh my goodness gracious, Floota! How gorgeous! HOw on earth could you pick one of those? I love Luddy's anyway and both of them are beautiful! then No boys Allowed, Mean Green...beautiful. I love Bob Marley. Art Attack is beautiful. I can't choose just one of these.

Oh wow, lots of real beauties! I thought Hyacinth Macaw is great but then I saw Creation Rejoices and Get Jiggy and Art Attack and Three Womens and Mean Green and.. they all are great!

What a beautiful group Of DL's I think Mean Green is my favorite though it was a difficult decision.

This is a great group and a great post and it is not too long.

I just love the combination of daylilies with other flowers. Whatever the 'other flowers' are, they almost always make the daylilies look even more fabulous. I found myself repeatedly wanting to see beyond the frame of your picture. I guess I will just have to take your garden tour! All in all, a wonderfully engaging set of pictures.

Your gardens are very gorgeous. With a lot of difficulty, I am choosing TUTTI FRUTTI CURLS as favorite. GET JIGGY amazes me, it looks different in every picture I see, but I always love it. I also love CREATION REJOICES, DESIRE OF NATIONS, NO BOYS ALLOWED, MEAN GREEN, and KENNESAW MOUNTAIN HAYRIDE.

What a lot of interesting ones! How big is Little Big Ears? I like the hot raspberry color on Art Attack. Apart from the Emmerichs, does anyone have experience with these in the north. I know that Desert Icicles hasn't done much here.

Mantis, Little Big Ears is registered as a 4" bloom. We have been dry here and it looks a bit smaller than that this year. But it is funky and every bloom is different. Sometimes it crests and sometimes it has the extra segments and sometimes both or neither! ART ATTACK should be hardy in Zone 6. And Ellen LaPrise hybridized BOB MARLEY in Mass. so it should be completely northern hardy. I saw it blooming in NY some years ago (2006 AHS National)in a big clump.
