Identify my new potted lavender plant

I bought this lavender plant a few weeks ago and it's grown about 4-5 inches with about half a drop of SuperThrive in the water every week or so. Does anyone know what kind of lavender this is? I haven't seen any online that look like mine. Does it look healthy? (All the ones I've seen online are bushier.) At night I keep it on my gas stove above the pilot light where the metal gets really hot so it gets good bottom heat..is this a good idea or does it not matter whether it gets bottom heat? Thanks, in advance, for all your help.

It looks like a young, healthy plant. It doesn't need bottom heat and would do best outside in a well-drained spot in the ground in full sun, although I'd introduce it to full sun gradually, since it's been indoors for a while.

The fact that the foliage is green eliminates the lavenders with silver foliage, and I'd say it's almost certainly L. angustifolia or L. x intermedia -- an "English" lavender or a lavandin -- from the leaf shape, but that leaves hundreds of varieties as possibilities. Post back when it grows larger and blooms. The color of the bloom, length of stem and how the flowers are arranged can all give clues as to the likeliest variety.

It's definitely English lavender, or a cultivar of it - the straight, unserrated leaves are a dead giveaway. The green leaves are an indication more of its youth than anything else - and possibly it hasn't been getting enough sunlight. They'll get more silvery with age.

Thank you for the links. I think I need to take some better pictures with this particular plant isolated. The browning patch you referred to (jeanne) is actually an adjacent weed. (this is my "weed garden" where I attempted to grow lots of weeds from around the area). I looked at various photos describing the two plants that you referenced, and the second bares a resemblance to some of the weeds in my garden, but not the one I'm interested in. Thanks again for the post! I'll try to come up with some better photos. :)

Looks like a sanseveria, 2 dracena and a plant I can't remember the name of....tropical...leaves get lighter in more sun... The first 3 are pretty sturdy plants....just don't let them sit in a pot of water.....Linda C Here is a link that might be useful:

Spikes are not the best way to go. If there is a need to use ferts, use something you broadcast or water in for better coverage. tj

My English Lavenders and L. x intermedia 'Grosso' have pretty nice silver leaves...new growth is a little greener but they eventually 'silver-up'.

Thank you all. OK...no more fertilizer. The windowsill that it sits on during the day gets full sun from about 11am-6pm, but I can't leave it outside since I live in an apartment building on the ground floor and the window is in the front of the building. Should I leave it on the windowsill or on my ground floor patio in the back of the building where it would get full sun from sun-up until about 10:30am?

It's not a good idea to put any plant close to window-glass. That glass heats up enormously, and can easily burn plants. Also, the glass filters out some of the necessary rays of the sun. If you can possibly put it in the sunniest position available, outside, it will be better for the plant. Ideally, lavender should have full sun for at least 8 hours a day. There's another thing to think of. I hope your windowsill is VERY large, and also the pot the plant is in. Lavender isn't a small plant! Full-grown, in the garden, it's too big for just one person to hug.
