Finally, I did something right! (1 pic)

As I was checking out the last few blooms in the garden this morning, in the back row I spied something interesting. Was I ever surprised and thrilled when I saw this lovely FFO seedling. I couldn't wait to get back inside and look up the cross. I went outside this evening to measure its diameter and found it in perfect condition still, in spite of our long, hot day.

Yeah Hoovb, suuure we believe ya. Would you believe that I actually had to take almost a year off from this forum to stop the rose purchasing craze? The more I read, the more pics I'd see, the more roses I HAD TO HAVE. Really, the only way to stop was to stop coming over here! I think mine gets a little bit of morning sun but my house is west facing (ridiculous) so much of the unshaded part of my front yard yard gets blazed away, which is where my Austins went in. The afternoon sun the BB will get is filtered at best since it's directly under the trees. I am curious to see how well she continues to bloom. I had her potted in similar sun exposure under trees before and she bloomed out something wonderful.

Jane, it all looks just gorgeous! Like pictures found in magazines. Your living room with that big tree, your gorgeous fireplace, all the nutcrackers on top of the cabinet and that sweet display on the table behind the couch are just wonderful--love it all. I think your wreat turned out great, I like the added vines, and really like how you hung the red ornaments off your mantel garland. What really caught my eye was the round rug under your tree, that looks so good and I've only seen that on Christmas cards before. Your little cloche in the kitchen is so cute with it's white dots on the red. And the little shelf makes a perfect display area. You are so lucky your DH is talented and can make wonderful things for you. Love how you added the Christmas plates and some greenery on the shelf with your other plates. And those little figurines are so cute. That little birdhouse sure looks like an ACORN to me--is it? (See, I really am obsessed with them!) That's great news, Myfampg. And I'm sure mama is beautiful as well. :) That's great you are trying to instill a sense of confidence in your daughter. I'm mixed black and white, and my daughters' father is black. Both of my girls have tan skin and curly black hair, but sometimes my D6 tells me what she wishes she was white and wishes she had "white hair". I think because she goes to a school where a lot of the kids are white so that's what she sees. I have to tell her how beautiful her tan skin is and how beautiful her long, curly, black hair is. Lately she hasn't said anything about it, but your post reminds me I need to remind my girls how beautiful they are. Glad to hear she doing better with handling SM. It's great that DS feels so close to DD. Like you say, enjoy it while it lasts, after a while she'll probably be locking him out her room, LOL! And I like idea of each of the kids having one on one time with DH, kills two birds with one stone. :)

Tibbrix, I totally agree about the slate. He can put that in his rustic/reclaimed bath he's building in the loft above his barn/shop. If we do a (reclaimed) wood it will just be on the wall the vanity is on. And thanks for the tip on researching how to protect the walls from moisture. I'll look for a picture. I had one I took for the cabinet maker but unless I've over looked it, I've already trashed it. There isn't a lot of wall space as this 5x8 bathroom as it has two doors...one opens to a bedroom and the other opens to a small hall. Holly Kay, I like mixing it up a little and putting something unexpected in a room. Our "Cowboy Chic" Monster (because of the size) den is a deep spiced pumpkin color with antelope carpet, cow hides, deer and bobcat mounts, lots of wood and stone but I try to level out the manly-ness of it all with some elegant touches :) In fact, I have a bowl from the same company that makes the sink (in both of our bathrooms) that sits on a formal-ish rustic stand in the den. This company also makes glass tile to match their sinks. I'd love to do some accents on the tub surround with it but DH has nixed that idea :( Here is a picture of the bowl/stand in the den. Violet, thank you. We're loving the offset faucet. SO glad we went with it. It was going to be super tight to put the faucet behind the sink due to the size of the sink and the thickness of the backsplash. In fact, it might not have worked at all! I didn't realize that the drain plunger thingy was so angled. outsideplaying, I wanted to use some matching glass tiles in on the tub surround but (as of right now) my husband isn't wanting any glass tile on the surround. (Cceana) copper and black glass tiles were the exact colors I had in mind as accent tiles. BTW, this is a tub/shower combo. There is no shower floor. Masculine framed mirror is already in the works :) Caramel...ohh that sounds nice. I deep caramel color. I'll have to look into that! Thank you! In case there are some that are sensitive to looking at animal skins, I've decided to post a link to the picture of the Oceana glass bowl/stand instead of embedding it. Yesterday, I had one of those real "dog" seedlings bloom for the first time. It was polypetal with some petals sticking up trying to double and others flat. The color was really gross. I wouldn't even dare breathe a word of who the pod parent is, it's that bad! It was hard to believe it, coming from the parents. I really bombed on that cross. It was the second ugliest daylily I've ever seen. So finding this beauty was very uplifting, to say the least!

Thanks, Kay and Val. You know how the FFO's are - sometimes they are the utmost gorgeous bloom to be had on the plant, never to be quite so stunning again. I hope that's not the case. I couldn't believe my eyes when I measured it. I had to do it three times to make sure.

I've had a few of the fall-planted tet seedlings in the backyard bed to bloom this year, but not many. I wasn't expecting any more from them this year. I think the unusual amount of rain we've had this month has really helped.

Last year I asked some questions here at the forum if anyone knew about the importance of early morning sun, and no one seemed to know if it made a difference. (Our daylilies were getting at least 5-6 hours of sunlight, but the ones at the back next to the fence were not thriving.)

We had an existing 6' board fence across the back (as well as the sides), so we had it and some trees removed or trimmed, and installed a wrought iron one. That and the rain have made a tremendous difference, especially in those planted in the last row closest to the fence.

Nancy: I agree on the nice pastel color. Always a pleasure to see what seedlings are blooming.
I'm always amazed at first year seedlings blooming and others that don't. Genetics perhaps?

I would describe the main color there as "nude." Not a color you see very often in daylilies, surprisingly. Very cool.

Hi, Nancy, with Nate's help I was going to go for "Cutie Nudie" but The Naked Maja is much more elegant and suited for your totally gorgeous seedling. As far as crosses go, well, it's always a crap shoot, isn't it? I did a cross with an award winning hybrid and a wonderful Carpenter seedling and all five flowers were disappointing. The kindest thing I could call them was mediocre and they were donated to the Master Gardener's sale. You don't have to worry about that with this one, I hope. I think it's a winner. Avedon

I love the name suggestions - they are hysterically funny!

I was lazy at the beginning of pollinating season, so didn't keep a record of the pollen parents' names. So I'm speculating here, and am suspecting that Angelwalker might have been the papa.
