Here are more pictures from last weekend's meetings. Some illustrate well why I dislike using an umbrella. However, they would be even worse without it!

These are just outstanding. Every one is a favorite, but for sure I would like to have Ruby Border. I must say I really do like the colors on a number of them, particularly Bluegrass Memories, Hoodwinked, Ocean's Eleven, and Plum Eyed Delicious. Avedon

Hi Bryan, I've met you a couple times through Mr. Mal and the Baton Rouge society. You have some really beautiful plants. Do you live close to Mr. Mal? I have some Dykia seedlings that came from you that are going strong, but Iost the packet with the cross written on it. You had given out packets of Dykia hybrid seeds at a meeting in Baton Rouge. Here is a shot of the Enos front yard where you can better see the clump of Keene! Four of the five gardens were somewhat hilly. And those four were AHS Display Gardens. 1) Jack Enos Family Fourth Street Garden, Monongehela, PA 2) Hart's Daylilies, Washington, PA 3) Southern Cross Daylilies(Larry and Jeanne Rowles, McMurray, PA 4) Heavenly Sunset Gardens: Dan and Bernadette Taylor,Glenshaw, PA. The last garden was the smallest and we all loved it. The owner was an artist and this garden was a jewel. I'll send pictures when I get around to it. ( Jablonski garden)

I also like the subway (perhaps because the travertine is something I did in the past and no longer want). FWIW, in tems of clean-up, I never had a problem with my tiles. Maybe you need to look at other shapes? Arabesque tiles are really pretty, or maybe something with irregular edges and some wave like the Settecento New Yorker 3x12 tile?

Nice to know that these are all (I presume) thriving in Pittsburgh. Ruby Border especially caught my eye.

I find any oranges more difficult to photograph even with the umbrella. The color tones are so off that I finally gave up.

Ditto on BLUEGRASS MEMORIES being impressive.

Bluegrass Memories! Wow. I really like the Selman too, and also Midnight in Moscow. But that Virginia Moonshine is beautiful too, and very different.

Pittsburgh is zone 5 and all of these cultivars seemed to be performing well or I probably wouldn't have bothered to take their pictures. BASS GIBSON for example was a big clump - I had seen new plants of it with one or two blooms but seeing it in a clump was amazing. Yes, I was happy to see BLUEGRASS MEMORIES looking so good, as it is new here this year and I had not seen it bloom before.

Is that a true color on Bluegrass Memories? That's so blue in the center! I really like Kennesaw Mountain Lemon Sorbet too

The picture of Bluegrass Memories was taken at 8:56 AM just as we were about to leave the 1st garden. It grew in heavy shade - north side of the house and you'll notice that not only was my picture badly focused but the blooms hadn't opened well. ( which was something I hadn't noticed on all the blooms in the sunny areas of the garden.) This was the first time I had seen it bloom also, and can only tell you that is how it looked Sat. AM in the shade. I can guarantee though that it certainly wouldn't look nearly so blue if you saw a picture taken at noon in full sun! I will be sure to get pictures of it here next season.

Lots of pretty blooms to look thru to find a favorite. I really liked PLUM EYED DELICIOUS and RUBY BORDER.

Bluegrass Memories clump looks fantastic, and while I like many of them, my favorites are Midnight In Moscow and Ruby Border. Kennesaw Mountain Lemon Sorbet is a beauty too.

You were so lucky to get to see so many beautiful blooms.
I agree with the others Bluegrass Memories is my favorite I may have to add it to the old wish list.

I'm intrigued by the fact that one of David's truffles is doing well in Pittsburgh. The only other place where I've seen them was in a garden during region 3's 2009 summer meeting -- and the garden owner had them in a sheltered spot backed by the wall of a garage. Maybe I can dip my toe in the water and try some of those wonderful doubles.

The Preuss looks just as it did the first time I saw it, which was in one of the AHS regional newsletters when it was still a seedling. I recall lusting after it but being very unsure about its hardiness. That's a nice clump there, floota, so I'm thinking that if they can grow it, then I should be able to, too.

HOODWINKED is a wow. Looks even more impressive than on Selman's web site!

I "need" KENNESAW MOUNTAIN LEMON SORBET!The only white/near white I have here is LAST SNOWFLAKE. Must rectify that.

MICRO CHIP reminds me that I've enjoyed MICRO BURST at the nearby AHS display garden. Great clump, always doubled when I saw it. It's TROPICAL DELIGHT x PENNY PINSLEY; MICRO CHIP is PENNY PINSLEY x TROPICAL DELIGHT. I've been liking doubles more and more, but I want them to double all the time. One of these two, or both, would be nice additions to my miniscule collection of doubles.
