Hula Girl & seeds

Does anyone know if the Hula girl will produce seeds? What cultivars are the best known to produce seeds? I have 2 Hula girls that recently flowered and there are a few buds about to open.

http://trop-hibiscus.com/hibseed.html answered many of my questions, but not lal of them!

That's a big question. I'm not familiar with Hula Girl, sorry.
Unless you've already gotten an answer, I'd join the THML (Tropical Hibiscus Mailing List), a Yahoo group and ask there. There are lots of professional hibiscus growers on that list and they'd be able to answer your questions.

I think I have a Hula Girl hibiscus and it does have one seed pod with seeds in it. I did a cross with it and another hibiscus that I have (which I think is Jane Cowel, an orange double). The plant I believe is Hula Girl has large overlapping single yellow flowers with a red center. I bought it at Lowe's so I assume it is a common garden variety.

I just bought these in June, as a rather large plant from a local nursery. I had never seen them before that day, but they were a bit different from the run of the mill, so I bought them. I can't say I am overly impressed so far. The plant itself is very healthy and has a good amount of leaves and growth. There were several flowers on the plant when I bought it. However, I have had only one new bud appear since I planted it in June. I have quite a few Coneflowers, but all of the purpurea species, and they have done extrememly well. I have this one planted in an area that gets a lot of sun all day until late afternoon. Maybe next year, it will be a bit better once it is well established.

Lisa, sorry, no pic, but I do think the plant will be registered in a few months. Is it possible that there is a pic in Ron's book? I'm sorry to say that I don't believe that I have his book: "The Book of Bromeliads and Hawaiian Tropical Flowers". Here are 2 of 3 of the results of my attempts to do bigeneric crosses with Orthophytum "Warren Loose'. These guys are tiny and I've added some fert pellets and they may be helping, but these guys have no lust for life. I've come to the conclusion that there are some "universal donors". I've got 2 neos that seem to cross with anything reasonable. Are they the best choices? No, but I always seem to end up using them just in case nothing else works and then wind up with just them working.

Most of my hibiscus only seem to bloom at the new growing tips. I have noticed with Hula girl that I sent out a bloom in the middle of its stalk - it pretty stick like right now, still recovering leaves from the winter...i think this is the pic of the flower it put out straight from the main stem and not a growing tip...I haven't really noticed this behavior before - but i am perfectly fine with more flowers on the plant!
