I hate to pop your bubble... sterile plants produce flowers... they just don't produce seeds. But, heck, why would that stop you? Happy growing!

Not according to the newsletter. I was only quoting verbatim what was written. So pop your bubbles if it makes you happy and don't feel sorry.
And it won't stop me. I plan to grow lots of basil this year.

hmmm... never ever heard of a plant that doesn't flower. New one to me! I wonder if it's a typo? I am sure that there are millions of things for me to learn, just hard to swallow a plant that doesn't flower... goes against nature.

I did write what was in the newsletter verbatim, and it says "it doesn't produce flowers and you don't have to deadhead it to keep the flavor in the delicious leaves". Could it be it was specifically bred so as not to produce flowers? The picture in the newsletter shows a beautiful, variegated plant with large, broad leaves. Looks delicious, lol!

If your growing various basil, give the giant leaf type a try too. Leaves are 6 inches across and the plants can get to 6 foot tall.

I don't know if by the giant type you are talking about the ones my nursery sold as crinkled lettuce leafed ones but rolling various stuffings like hummus and olive tapanade sp in them for a tasty tibit. Can do chicken or other thins also but the above are my favorites.

I guess you can call it lettuce leaf type, but the ones I grew from seed were over 5 foot tall, and the leaves were huge. Never saw this type anywhere else, but now have no seeds left to grow anymore..

I grew this plant two years ago - but it was under a different name and I bought it somewhere else. Very nice shape and worked well in a container. I wasn't as good at rooting cuttings and overwintering back then so I lost all of mine but I plan on growing it again.

There is another cultivar claiming to not bloom til way late in the season, I don't remember what it was called, but it had small narrow leaves and mine bloomed right on schedule with all the other basils.

There is also another variegated basil of the blue/african type. Flavor is more camphor-ish but the plant is very robust and attractive in the flower bed. Bring on the variegated herbs!

I just bought one of these basils at the local Fred Meyer (a grocery chain owned by Kroger). I hope to keep it going throughout the winter & take cuttings in the spring to plant outside.

I have heard of coleuses that don't bloom (continue to produce stems but no flowers) so I have no trouble believing that this basil will continue to grow without flowers.

I am hoping that some day this basil will throw a non-variegated stem that I can propagate since I think a non-variegated plant would be more robust.
