Some daylilies didn't get totally destroyed by the rain this morning. There were a few more that looked pretty good, but the majority were a mess.

Wispy Rays was partially protected by a dogwood tree.

The survivers all look very well after their harrowing ordeal. Wispy Rays is my favorite here.

Those are really pretty! My favorite is Spiderwalk for the form and the star in the center. The seedlings look promising, and Wispy Rays still looks pretty darn snazzy in spite of the rain. I was out watering all afternoon/evening and still no rain...it usually rains just AFTER I water, so maybe it will? It takes me 4 hours to water everything, just lugging that long hose around...and I always manage to break a plant in the process. Ugh. My brother lives only 20 minutes away and he got rain yesterday. I'm glad for you that you got a good soaking rain; although of course it ruins a lot of blooms. I guess there's good & bad in everything!

I too am in Middle Tennessee. Last year was my first winter in my greenhouse. I only placed a few Phals and a Dend hybrid along with all my tropicals. I didn't run the risk of killing all my chids. I monitored it daily (kept temp and humidity levels) and have a better idea of how the winter went last year as to what I am going to do this year. I will probably place all my Phals in there so they can get the cool down they need to bloom and may try a Paph or two. I am going to insulate the north wall and roof this year. Right now it is double poly walls and I had to run two heaters and fans and leave the auto vents on auto last winter. It was tough trying to regulate temps as my greenhouse is 8 x 12. I asked a lot of questions on the forum and then jumped in there and aired on the side of caution. Let me know if I can suggest anything. One thing I did do was visit another greenhouse (commercial grower in Franklin) and he gave me a lot of useful information that I wish I had known before I had ordered my greenhouse. Cindy

Merrybookwoyrm (love the name) To be effective, glyphosate has to be applied to an actively growing plant with a reasonable amount of foliage. And it has to be applied with a spray that is heavy enough to wet that foliage. Most failures are due to removing the top foliage (mowing or weed-whacker) and then trying to "kill the rest", or to applying to water-stressed plants in the mistaken belief that they will be more susceptible. Whatever you are trying to kill off, water it thoroughly to get it growing, spray carefully, wait a couple of days for the glyphosate to translocate to the roots ... and THEN mow or weedwhack or whatever. It improves your kill rate.

My Frosty Pink - it’s a survivor!

This is a picture of the four Sauveolens (I think Frosty Pink) I had last year. I gave three away, and cut my last one down almost to the ground this fall. I rooted one piece and gave a lot of pieces away. Mine has some distorted looking growth coming out on what's left of the trunks, but I'm hoping it will send up a root shoot. Root shoots are the ones that get really tall and grow like trees.

Hey, so I have to ammend my previous posting awhile ago....Now it's raining!
I knew it...all I had to do is spend all day watering everything! Works every time. LOL

Celeste I spent 2 1/2 hours watering yesterday afternoon and we got rain this morning. It does seem to work!
