Purple Palace turning green

I have Purple Palace coral bells, but they all turn green by the end of June. Does anyone know why this happens? They do not get much direct sun as we have many mature trees. How much sunlight do they need to maintain the purple color? Will something other than sunlight bring the purple color back?

Mine are changing color as well. Read my post, just a couple down from yours about Heuchera Color.
I have 4 different varieties and 3 of the 4 are turning an ugly brownish w/green underneath...it's a hard to describe color. I should try to post some photos.

The green heuchera need less light. As for heucheras with color dark leaves need sunlight to keep a deep color. Most of mine including the blacks are in direct sunlight. They just need more water. You should move it or put it in a pot to be moved around for sun.

Though the pic is kinda dark....it looks like Iresine Herbstii or 'Bloodleaf' plant. This plant needs very bright light to keep it's intense coloring. What direction does your window face? GH

Purple Smokebush turning green/red

Poster, Lacyvail is right. You probably bought your smoke bush at a big box store like home depot or lowes. The true "Royal Purple" smoke bush will not turn green. Some smoke bushes are grafted, most do not grow true from seed. You must order one from a true nursery or visit a specialty nursery to get a good Royal purple smoke bush. There are also many different purple smoke bushes who have different characteristics. "Grace" is a hybrid cross between the green smoke bush and Velvet cloak.(which is a gorgeous true purple smoke bush) "Grace" has blue green leaves with red tinges around the leaves because she is always growing. Gorgeous smoke bush by the way, but she grows very fast and very big. Research the internet on the different cultivars, there are new cultivars this year you might be interested in. They are definately worth every dime you pay for them if you buy from a specialty nursery who deals in quality. Good LucK!

I don't think I can get agricultural fertilizer around here. The best I could find were some fertilizers intended for flowering plants that supposedly contain extra phosphorus. They're not even intended specifically for hydroponics. I bought two brands of fertilizer. One is a liquid that says only that it is "high in" P205, no specific NPK ratio given. Can P205 be taken up by plants in a hydroponic system? The other says its NPK ratio is 15-30-20. It comes as granular crystals that you're supposed to dissolve in the water, 1 gram to 1 litre of water. It doesn't say exactly what form the minerals come in. I guess I'll just give it a shot and see what happens.

I have several and they bore me. Mine are actually in part shade to help them retain their color. Unfortunately, they green up in our heat. I did learn, with my 20+ number of Tiarella, Heuchera, and Heucherella, that some do take my Southern Maryland, afternoon full sun. Quicksilver, Green Spice, Amber Waves, SunSpot, San Ginuea, Blackbird, Color of Beauty, Harmonic Convergence, Obsidian, Cancan, Cappuccino and a few that are escaping me. I think it's the Heucherella that are strongest. I did learn if something's spent 2 years in full sun, don't read that it's a shade plant, panic, dig it up and move it. I lost my Quicksilver, San Ginuea and 2 others that way. Oh - my Purple Palace is almost 2.5' tall and about 3' in diameter right now. But then, my Splendens is even bigger. Go figure. Christine

Also, I believe new growth may be truer to color then it matures to green.

If I remember correct Palace Purple always matures to green, it is only the fresh new growth that is purple.

I shovel pruned it long ago when better purples came along.

This is mine, it is always this color except when the heat really hits. Then it turns the ugly browning unless I water, water, water...sometimes I do some years I don't.
I have had it since 2007 doesn't seem to lose it's color no matter where it is planted.
