New Blooms and New Additions!!

It was a perfect day. It started out with rain ( which we needed) and not before I took a few pics of FFO. Then my mailperson brought my Maryott package right to my door, with a big smile on her face, (she loves daylilies too) My bonuses included, Continental Holiday, which I really wanted, Because of You and Prediction, which I already have, but that's Ok cause I love it. The new Prediction took up residence in the pot ghetto as there wasn't enough room next to my 'received as a bonus' last year Prediction. Still I am very happy, the plants have nice large roots, huge fans and all were more than the double fan. I noted that two of my new plants, have the beginning of scapes way down in the fan. I also received Lady Betty Fretz,(which is sold out now) Sink Into Your Eyes, and Spacecoast Sea Shells. Then the sun came out, I had soaked them for a couple of hours, so in they went. Just got done planting them ( I do take my time, cause it is just so gosh darn enjoyable ) and it started to rain again. So I got my 'fix' for this week!!! Next week we are driving to New York to Cottage Gardens. Wednesday is looking good for that. Then of course I got back with Maryott and ordered more. Really wanted Eyes Right Jones that they are giving right now as a bonus. So the deed was done, more on the way!!! Only have room now for nine more daylilies, after taking into consideration the ones I already know I want at Cottage. YIKES, what will I do. Back to the yard. I will soon have very narrow paths of grass LOL. So here are the blooms for today, some yesterday. Cindy

Wow, Cindy, you really did have a great day. And your daylily gardens are just expanding very nicely. Maybe you could consider filling in some of your emptier spots. Of course, they are probably not really empty, thats probable were all those glorious daffodils are that I saw blooming all over your beds this spring.

I just love your beds. Probably because they are curved and rounded and I love that look. Nice to have ducks visiting from the lake.

Lovely blooms, my favorite would be Tuscawilla Bill Reed, very, very pretty.

I posted this over in the Banana forum as well, but ill post it here too since it IS a new addition. If you want to try and ID it... go for it, but I think it very well just might be a grand nain after all. IF that in fact is the case, hes comin in for the winter. I already removed the largest pup, and he did have roots of his own. ****************** Ok, A small local neighborhood nursery and gift shop had a banana plant left over from this summer's plant stock. This guy was in a "display" arrangment, in the center of a large pot, with some sweet potato vines in with him draping over the sides. I asked if they would sell it to me, and they said sure, for $20.00. So I had them dig him out and plop him in a plan old plastic nursery pot just to transport him the few blocks home. There WAS actaully a tag in with him, and it says he is a Musa Grand Nain. I would like to know if anyone can verify this, or if it might be something else like a basjoo, or cavendish. He is loaded with pups, about 5 or 6, a couple of which are fairly big, maybe approaching 2 feet. The main reason I want to know is so I can determine how I am going to handle him for the winter. If its not a basjoo or other cold hardy (corm hardy here in my zone 8) I would like to know so I can figure out how to deal with him indoors for the winter. Here are the photos: This last photo below is of one of the large pup's leaves. They have the familliar dark sploches on them, that look like a deep redish to me. Also, in one of the photos above, you can see the pseudostem is fairly red in color. I did pull away 2 of the oldest, and very small leaves which revealed the more red part of the stem. Any ideas if this is in fact a grand nain? If it isnt, then what exactly do you think it is? It sure does look ALOT like my basjoo, but its alot smaller. It was grown in a smaller container so far this whole summer as well. My basjoo is in a gigantic pot, which is probably why hes gotten real good hight. Thanks for the help!

How is the new room heated and cooled? With forced air through ducts? If so, does the room have a return duct or does it depend on circulation through the door opening? There may be some technical reasons why the gap at the bottom is good even if the gap was not intentional.

bcar the general conscensus is that you get better control and ccomfort with two systems over one system that uses zoning controls for a large living space with just one system. you need to take that into consideration, your overall satisfaction with existing system, and the ductwork modifications required to go to one system with zoning controls. you may be required to give up some living space as well with one system. then there is the qualifying process of finding a capable HVAC dealer to do the job. look for experience and references that you can call and perhaps visit. as far as remote access and iPhone usgae, this is rapidly changing everyday and you need to rely on dealer for advice on this subject. I know Trane and Carrier have remote access capability. I do think that Carrier along with sister company Bryant offer the best integrated system for residential zoning on the market. And certainly I would be very careful in selecting a third party control/stat just to get remote iPhone access/capability. IMO

Your gardens are beautiful. I admire your discipline--only buying as many daylilies as you have room for. That's probably why your garden looks so nice and not like a jungle like mine does.

What a nice group of blooms and of course that garden shot just makes me want to take a walk along the riverfront. Love the way you have everything laid out.

Fairy Tale Pink is so pretty. As I was going to work this morning, there was a sign in a yard "Daylilies for Sale". At lunch, I drove to the place and they were selling clumps of 5-6 fans for $4. I noticed that she had Fairy Tale Pink, but decided to get something else instead with "queen" in the name, forgot what it is now, but at least it's marked.

She also had South Seas and I could have kicked myself, because I just bought this for $8 and it was 3 fans. I may just have to go back and get that Fairy Tale Pink:)

Wow, Very pretty blooms,and I love that beautiful scenery there.Your curved and rounded beds are really nice/I love them.The ducks coming for some th ing to eat is comical,as years ago,I had ducks too,and every time I walked outside,they would come running,expecting some thing.

I also love Always Afternoon -- it is so hard working, blooms and blooms and blooms. Mighty pod fertile, too!
Awesome Blossom is really nice.
And the garden setting is wonderful. It's like a beautiful dream!

Tuscawilla Bill Reed is worth waiting for.Nice selection.
I hope your drive to Cottage Gardens is a dry one, ie no rain. I bought my plants from Brent over the winter and got them this spring. All are doing fantastic and I should see blooms in the next couple of weeks. Happy shopping!

Thanks sooooo much everyone, you guys know you are just feeding the addiction. LOL. The ducks are mallards, but we have lots of ducks, geese and an occassional swan here too. Good thing they don't eat daylilies. I have always enjoyed them. I spend my entire winter planning and plotting about what to do in my yard. It is an obsession and often I see people (who don't get it) glaze over when I start to talk about the daylilies. Oh well, they shouldn't ask!!!!!Oh and the markings on the trees( my neighbors trees)-- the trees are a wild cherry and web worms favor them, so the markings are like a sticky tape that stops the nasty bug from crawling up the tree to do its damage. Thanks again everyone, you are such a great group of people who certainly get it..
