Latest Daylily and a Few Reblooms (pics)

My last daylily to bloom most years is ORCHID CORSAGE. It has been blooming for several weeks and still has quite a few buds. The color hasn't been very saturated this year, I'm guessing because of the heat and lack of rain.

I'm enjoying quite a few reblooms this year. And I have a question for y'all. In this next pic you'll see 3 rebloom scapes. And there is also a smaller scape coming up between the two blooms. It is several weeks behind the 3 larger rebloom scapes. Is this considered a second rebloom...or is it a first scape from a new fan...or is it an instant rebloom after rebloom?

SPIDER MAN is also reblooming today and has a fourth scape lagging behind the 3 current reblooming scapes. I wish all mine would do this. It is really going to extend my season.

I've really enjoyed the next one. It's new this year and blooming late here, but I expect that will change next year. I find myself stopping to admire it several times a day.

Good question on Bittersweet Holiday. I am afraid I don't know the answer. Reblooms kind of confuse me. BH is a nice looking daylily.

Your stargazers are very pretty! So many of them. It's my Mom's favorite flower.

Love the way you have incorporated the daisies and balloon flowers in with your daylilies. Everything just blends so well together.

Spiderman is really amazing! I love it. The color is just so clear and wonderful red.

So very beautiful Stargazer! Should remember to plant some. They are just gorgeous!

Thank you for looking, everyone. Ngraham, I always make an order from Maryott. I was afraid I would have to replace Rose F Kennedy, but it is doing beautifully now with three fans. I recommend Citrix very highly. Celeste, she was very skittish around me to start with and can be a little reserved at times, but she loves to play and the roses and daylilies are her campground. She will be mad because I dead-headed the Don Juan at the little landing and she was playing with the Nice little seed balls. golly Galore is another one that blooms a long time. I removed a couple fans of mine because it had started crowding winner's trophy. Twixanddud, it will probably explode with blooms next year. Debra, I spent a good bit of time to attract her. they were all feral to begin with, She and Gus get bites of roast and chicken as well as their regular canned food. Favorites of mine too nat4b. We have elderly cats and elderly chihuahuas so i keep those for them to get pills or to tempt their fickle appetites. Jean, the cats are so much fun, aren't they. Bells especially follows me all over the garden. Mantis, that says it is a good one if it does well for you in your location and me in mine. kay

Instant Rebloomers (no pics)

As I was outside today cleaning up daylilies up on the plateau in the back I did notice what I had not noticed before. All those Emmerich intros that are up there that are supposed to have instant rebloom did indeed have instant rebloom as they were double scaped. That means first scapes and second scape right on top of it. Gives for lots of bloom but harder for me to notice as rebloom. You have to follow each scape down into its fan to see if its a two for one or not. I found that easier to do now that there are few flower buds left on most of those scapes. But truely, I just didn't think to look. I looked when scapes started blooming for shorter new scapes coming but mostly didn't see those so thought no rebloom on them. But I was wrong. Problem is that double scaped doesn't extend the length of the season, just gives lots more flowers. I wonder if they will rebloom again the regular rebloom way? Humm, that would be a treat! Now on the Emmeriches planted in the redone veggie bed they are having rebloom but those scapes while big enough to have buds are considerably behind the original scapes. So easier for me to spot. Also there is a Mike Derrow intro up there in the veggie garden, Lunar Empire. Gosh, it has such great branching and big strong scapes. Today I look really closely and there are rebloom scapes on each fan that is currently blooming. Very impressive as there are already tons of buds from the original scapes. I was looking for a great yellow and sure picked the right one when I found Lunar Empire :-)

Jean, I've had a few small water snakes in my pond at times, but we always manage to get them out and relocate them. It's only been the southern banded water snakes, but they will eat your fish, so they've had to go. :) Betsy...sometimes I have one that tends to be more on the peachy side, but them I have lots that are very pink too. Thanks fairysoapgirl...glad you enjoyed my wildlife and dl's too! :) AM is a new one for me this year too Ellie, and her rebloom has been much nicer than her first blooms. Chris...Angel will sit for hours and watch the fish, she's fascinated with them I guess. :) Rita...I think I'm getting more rebloom this season than ever before. That's fine by me...the longer I get bloom the better. LOL Jan

Sorry I didn't get back with you Brad. I hope you brought them in. I forgot to bring in the last of my iris, but iris do bloom quite well inside & can last a long time. I tend to keep my house just a bit cool, so that is probably why mine lasted so long. I threw out the last of them Friday. There were still some buds on them, but after the Thanksgiving todo, I was ready to let them go. If you don't have Daughter of Stars, Harvest of Memories, & earl of Essex, those are my best late bloomers. They are my most prolific multipliers too, guess that is because of the fall blooming.

KaTHY- What fan is that small scape coming out of? Is it from one of the fans that already has a blooming scape right now? That BITTERSWEET HOLIDAY is quite a lovely daylily and your stargazers are so beautiful.

Vickie, Glad you enjoyed the pics. BH is a pretty plant...nice foliage with big thick scapes. Mine is growing in too much shade, but performing well in spite of it. Due to the shade, I think, it doesn't fully open until after 9am...which is late in my garden.

Bj, Yes, SPIDER MAN is one of my favorites. And I love the scent of the Stargazer lilies. I have a chair sitting next to that bed so that I can sit and sniff while they are blooming. It's my version of aroma therapy.

Rita, The small scape on BITTERSWEET HOLIDAY is coming up in a fan that has an old scape with a seed pod on it...so that fan currently has 2 scapes. The small scape on SPIDER MAN is also coming off a separate fan ...not the 3 reblooming now. Both of these smaller scapes look like they are about 2 weeks behind the rebloom scapes that are currently blooming. If this has happened before in my garden, I didn't notice it. Any thoughts?

Oh those Stargazers are amazing! One of my favorite flowers!! Glad you are seeing some rebloom - always makes me happy!

A rebloom fan that comes up while the original fan is still blooming is called instant rebloom. Of course its not really instant but since there is not the more normal bloom then wait then rebloom scape appears thats what its called. Currently my ON LINE from Don Herr are doing that instant rebloom thing. If that scape had finished blooming long ago and is just there because of the seed pod, I don't know if I would call it instant rebloom or not. Just more rebloom?

I've wondered about the rebloom as well, good question.

Your daylilies are so pretty.Love MARDI GRAS PARADE. the Stargaser lilies are very pretty, too.I have some kind of a lily blooming in my back yard,too and have no idea qhat kind they are.I don't care for them,as the blooms won't stand up.The flower stalk won't hold up so many blooms on it,and falls over on the ground.The man that cuts my grass this year has run over them 3 times already and cut t hem down,and in 2 weeks,they are back up and more blooms on them.Can't kill the things.

How nice to have that kind of rebloom! I don't know what you would call the rebloom scape on Bittersweet Holiday, but it will give you lots more bright, pretty blooms. The stargazer lilies are gorgeous. My orientals did not perform well this year - only one bud on each. The drought has just about killed them out. Those few blooms I had didn't have any fragrance. I can't figure out why. Usually the perfume is overpowering.

fairysoapgirl - Glad you enjoyed the Stargazers. The scent is just right for me because I have sinus trouble and my sense of smell is not very keen. I like to pick a few and float them in a bowl of water. It perfumes the whole house.

Rita - I'm not sure what kind of rebloom it is. I don't think it's a second rebloom because it's on a different fan...just later. Anyway, I'm glad to see it.

lalalandwi - MGP is a pretty little thing. I'm hoping it will have more blooms next year.

Jean - Take a pic of your lily. Maybe someone here can tell you what it is? It certainly sounds hardy!

Debra - I'll take any kind of rebloom that comes my way...just thought this staggered set of rebloom scapes were odd. Quick question...I was wondering if your MGP makes small fans? Mine was tiny when I planted it this Spring. It has multiplied quickly, but is still small.

I love the platycodon with ORCHID CORSAGE and, of course, the Stargazer lilies are beautiful. I'm liking the lilies more and more each year.

OhLaLa on MGP...love that one!! Glad you are getting all that beautiful rebloom Kathy...they're all so pretty. Your Stargazers are gorgeous. I think maybe I need to add some to my garden. :)

Beautiful! Beautiful! I love seeing the companion plantings along with the daylilies. Your Stargazer is magnificent. I could almost smell it through my computer :-) MGP is such an amazing flower. On my wish list it will go. Thanks. Love all your color combinations.
