Comments (9)They come by that reputation honestly.......or maybe I should say dishonestly :-) Seriously, the complaints and bad reviews about this nursery have been going on for YEARS!! I'm surprised they've even managed to stay in business with the amount of bad press they receive. And justifiably so. Before they threatened Garden Watchdog with a lawsuit resulting in the deletion of all reviews and any direct mention of the place, complaints were at about 5:1 versus any favorable reviews and were hliarious at best and heartbreaking at worst - bad labeling, dead plants, no plants, shipping fiascos, no refunds, overcharging, charging the account multiple times, sending things not ordered/not sending what was ordered......the list is endless. There was some evidence that the positive reveiws were actually posted by TyTy employees/management just so there would be some sort of positive remark about the nursery. If it was just an issue of shipping difficulties, that might be overlooked with adequate customer service but they've gone faaaarrrrr beyond that point. Stay away. Stay very far away. Comments (7)If you ever check Gardenwatchdog (www.davesgarden.com/gwd/) to get an idea of how reliable a nursery is you won't find TyTy listed among the other 4000+ nurseries. At one time they were listed, and the postings comprised the most horrifying, pathetic, and sometimes sadly hilarious set of failed transactions I've ever seen. However, TyTy threatened to sue the owners of Gardenwatchdog if their listing wasn't removed. Even though all the horrible reviews were the product of unhappy customers, and not the Gardenwatchdog folks, they did remove the listing in order to avoid spending resources defending against this threat. Comments (14)There are no sufficient words to describe what a lousy reputation Ty-TY has with fig growers, and gardeners. Their claims are exagerated, and you will be lucky if you get what you ordered. Mislabeled fig trees are very common, and customer service handling complaints will cause you blood pressure to reach stroke levels. Big figs usually have very little flavor, and almost always, photos of breba figs are shown in the ads. Main-crop figs are usually much smaller. Don't be fooled by the thoughts of growing giant, delicious, figs. "Patrick's Super Giant" might be the over-rated "Texas Blue Giant". I spent two long years waiting for my "TxBG" to produce figs. They were horrible! Half the crop dropped off the tree, and the figs that did ripen, had an insipid, bland "flavor" if you could call it that. A real "zero" in my book. Save your money and buy a real tasty fig variety. Your "German Black Giant" might turn out to be a far superior fig. A forum search will give you plenty of information about fig varieties, and reading past postings is very informative. By the way, if not too much trouble...can you post more pics. of the "GBG" figs, and shots of your tree. I'm also growing this variety, but I'm finding very little information in print, about this fig. You ARE growing "German Black Giant" are you not? Comments (0)I understand the merchant’s ire; I am a B of A merchant myself. I tried to reason with them on the phone, but some merchants take these things personally, and some are just dishonest. In this case, it is a little of both. When I received the product, it was in an (approximate) 12"X12"X48" cardboard box, bare root and bunched together, like a bunch of asparagus. I had to take the 20 "bushes" apart and separate them to see what I had. Please refer to the picture on page 7, which is one "bush". I called the merchant that same day; they refused to offer a pick-up of the plants. I was forced to put my problems in an email to them, please see page 4. I would have worked with them on the problem, but they refused to budge, stating only policy. I then put the plants in soil to protect the bare roots in our south Texas dry weather, while we continued to communicate. My position is this: I agreed to buy Oleander Trees, see page 5, TyTy was selling "trees", which I contracted for, see the invoice, page 1, 20 Firestarter Oleander Tree-3 Gal. That is not what I got. The merchants own web site states a tree is a single stem or trunk; I got a bush with multiple stems on each. I use the seller as their own expert. In the sellers reply to me, see bottom of page 7 and very top of page 8, they admitted they were not trees but bushes that could be pruned into a tree. I likened it to buying flowers at a flower shop, and they give you a bag of flower seeds (well, they will be flowers). The merchant misrepresented their product to me on their website. I requested a return of the product, stating the misrepresentation to the seller; they flatly refused to provide any remedy. The seller abandoned the wrongly shipped product by refusing to negotiate any remedy beneficial to both seller and buyer. At that point, I did not trust the seller for a refund if I went to the expense of returning the plants.
