I once put a broccoli seedling on my railing and went to gather some stuff up before I went outside to plant it. I came back to find my sweet little girl cat (right now purring in my lap) helping herself to a nice fresh salad. Grr! Cats like broccoli?? Most humans don't like broccoli, and cats are carnivores! I took the seedling back up to put it under lights where it could grow another leaf or two before I planted it. It's doing fine, actually. So's the cat. I did not kill her. She's too cute. I just yelled at her. My spare room is a cat-free zone. That's where my quilting, my plants, my crocheting, and all those other delicate items stay, and the cats aren't allowed in. My thoughts and sympathies re: the Virginia Tech shootings. I have a similar back yard. I'm from Colorado.

Well I don’t see many chipmunks but I know they are very cute. You had 5 of them? And now you have zero. I think it’s rude of the owner of the cat to do nothing about it. As you can see on my profile picture I have a cat and he also Kills birds. In fact, I have saved numerous birds form him. If the lady won’t do anything about it I suggest that whenever your chipmunk goes outside you should go with him/her just to be safe, another option is keep your chipmunk more indoors than outside, yes I know he has to feel the nature but you should get it like some toys or like some nature in your house. The last one is get a large cage and put it outdoors, also make sure the cat can’t squeeze it or stretch the wires of the cage.

I had a big old male tabby with a megacolon. He was fed expensive cat food most of his life, and one day I bought some of that really old fashioned pate' brand in the standard sized can and he loved it. Not only did he love it, for the first time in years he was able to evacuate most of the time without assistance from medicines or enemas. One by one all of the local stores discontinued the cheap brands for the cute little gourmet cans with the high price tags. I started going all over the county to find the ones who mights still be carrying those two brands, and couldn't even get stores to order cases in for me. Cats, and especially cats with medical problems, can't be switched around from food to food when you find a food they can eat and it works for them. I am so sorry to hear of your cat's situation. It just shouldn't happen.

When you repotted, did you see the roots on the small plant? The wilting sounds like it doesn't have a large enough root system to support the number of leaves on the plant. If bagging helps, you'll have to leave it in there until it develops a bigger root system. If you can get that plant back out of the pot without too much fuss, you could put it in a glass of water to revive and form more roots. It also might be easier to bag this small plant in it's own pot rather than the whole bigger pot with both plants. Dave could be right regarding the very crunchy mix with orchid bark, it might not be retaining enough water to support the weak plant. I think strong plants would adapt to the mix you've used, if it was mine I'd just separate the little one and deal with it separately. Let us know what you decide to do, and if bagging the pot helps to plump the little plant back up. Dave, that's a great close-up of your bark, it looks much like the pine bark mulch I'm getting from Walmart. But 'The Water Saver' pine bark by Fafard I get from a wholesale nursery is finer, I think. If I can get a closeup pic of both I'll send to you for comparison with what you have. Russ
