Yes, the red leaves are the earlier growth, and they actually look a little greener today. I guess I didn't remember them being so red last year, and the other 2 varieties don't look red or fuzzy. A photo is below... do you all think that is "normal fuzziness" or powdery mildew on the shoots (bottom left corner especially)?

It the berries taste OK, what's a little mildew? I would just go ahead and ignore it. We are having so much rainfall in Wisconsin this summer, that people are beginning to notice moss growing in their ears. I suppose that you could weed the strawberries, and maybe thin them a bit, to get more sunlight down in there. If there are nearby trees that are shading the strawberry patch, they could be pruned back.

I have the same...I assume, but don't know, that it's powdery mildew from the wet weather and wind we've had. My organic approach is to ignore it...and hope it goes away, since it's a native dogwood seeded from a stand within 20 miles from where it is now. My assumption being, it should withstand threats and weather here.

Yes - try the mixture of 1 part skim milk to 9 parts water. BUT spray that first thing in the spring when your plants are beginning to grow - and then just spray again when you think of it! If you use whole milk you risk getting a bad smell. I have used this mixture on all my gardens and flower beds and haven't had mildew and black spot in over 5 years yet my neighbor has a terrible problem with both - on everything!!! Others have told me they won't use it as it sounds like a witches brew! go figure. Never had a problem with cats! Also if you soak your seedlings, soil and seeds with a solution of equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water your plants will thank you - it seems to give them a great start and the plants seem stronger.
