Thanks for the tips folks! Ok, so it's too cold, and it's not getting enough light. I suppose I could supplement the southerly light with a flurescent, at least until spring is REALLY here... What temp would be ideal? Will these buds open in time, or will they be lost? Also, an ornamental rock is really in the way of things? Could you explain? It just sits on top of the soil and takes up less than 5% of the soil surface area....I see what you're saying about the method of judging dryness, but must I remove it altogether? Thanks again, dp

Do you have leaves on the non-blooming tree ? You should, by now. If you don't, then the tree is probably a goner. Take it back for a replacement. If you do have leaves, then the tree is probably okay. Something just happened that screwed up the bloom this year. Maybe the buds were damaged in the planting of the tree. Good Luck ...

They are stuck. Give it a light shower or spray the flowers until the water runs off. In nature, they would be outside getting morning due, humidity at night, rain showers, etc. Growing indoors is a dry environment. Jane

if bloom is running late.. you have to try to look back.. and try to remember if spring was long.. and cool .. or some such .. not unlike growing from seed .. the plant probably needs X number of days.. from break of dormancy [or with seed, from germination] .. to achieve bloom .. so if spring is long and cold.. the whole process could be slowed ... but then .. flower is probably also triggered by the height of the sun [though this would be minimal in a fall flowering case ... it might even be declination of the sun???] ... and other variables ..... my point is.. there are many variables to consider ... ergo ... moving them around.. might not help at all ... unless its to a spot which is somehow warmer in spring ... ken
