Do you think daylilies take a year off now & then

We've had lots & lots of rain this year so far, & we did last year too. I have some daylilies that looked wonderful last year that just aren't as impressive this year. Custard Candy seemed to bloom all summer last year, it had come & gone before I hardly noticed it this year. Awesome Blossom bloomed great last year & did well on rebloom, not one single bloom this year. The plants look nice & healthy. On the other hand, El Desperado bloomed great in 2009, last year was so-so, but it wonderful again this year. Some I could attribute to needing division, or just getting overshadowed by taller daylilies, but not these particular ones.
