Growing Panicum grasses in Georgia

When I bought my plants in March, I asked the people at the nursery if they had any Panicum (switchgrasses), and they told me they didn't sell it because Panicum does not do well here due to the heat and the humidity. I had read they grew well into zone 9.

Anyone here grow Panicum ornamental grasses? I was surprised I didn't get any hits when I searched the forum - so maybe they don't do well here?

I was wanting to grow Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal' next year. What are your experiences, if any?

Thanks!!
