That is not a healthy lawn to be sure. Fertilize with a balance lawn fertilizer ASAP. Do so before a soaking rain or water it in thoroughly. Brown spots look like the beginning of fungal disease. I cannot tell what it is but one application of corn meal or cracked corn at 20 lbs per 1000 square ft. will most likely clear that up in a few weeks time. Do both, fertilize and spread cracked corn ASAP. Then fertilize heavy in the fall once around Sep 15 and again after the top growth has completely stopped, usually around Nov 15. This sets your lawn up for a beautiful healthy spring lawn in year 2010. Most Importantly - Quoting my friend dchall_san_antonioÂs frequent advise: 1. Water deeply and infrequently. Deeply means at least an hour in every zone, all at once. Infrequently means monthly during the cool months and no more than weekly during the hottest part of summer. If your grass looks dry before the month/week is up, water longer next time. Deep watering grows deep, drought resistant roots. Infrequent watering allows the top layer of soil to dry completely which kills off many shallow rooted weeds. Mulch mow at the highest setting on your mower. Most grasses are the most dense when mowed tall. Bermuda, centipede, and bent grasses are the most dense when mowed at the lowest setting on your mower. Dense grass shades out weeds and uses less water when tall. Dense grass feeds the deep roots you're developing in 1 above. Fertilize regularly. I fertilize 4 times per year using organic fertilizer. Which fertilizer you use is much less important than numbers 1 and 2 above. Bill Hill

Did you disturb the soil when you did the renovation? Seeds can sit in or on the soil for up to 30 years in a few cases waiting for the right conditions to happen. The constant sprinkling makes everything germinate - your seeds and the weeds too. For the Clover, you can get Ortho's Clover/Chickweed/Oxalis Killer (or anything with 8% Triclopyr), which can be put down with a hose-end sprayer. It works. Keep in mind however, that large amounts of Clover are a sign of low fertility. Find about why the fertility is low, or it will be back.

Dear KEK, Thank you very much for your inquiry. Your scenario is not atypical, nor insurmountable. The first issue is to kill the weeds with a herbicide, Trimec. Then come back with a premium Kentucky bluegrass/perennial ryegrass seed mixture at 3.0 lbs/1000 ft2. At this time, put down a starter fertilizer (13-25-12 or anything with a 1-2-1 N-P-K ratio) at a rate of 1.0 lbs N/1000 ft2. If you want to prevent crabgrass from competing, put down siduron herbicide (you can buy this combined with starter fertilizer or alone). This is the only herbicide to use at seeding. After 30 days come back with the same fertilizer at the same rate, you can go to a slow release N source after this. Water lightly 1-2 times daily, if you mulch it may be longer intervals between watering, but be sure to use a clean straw or paper mulch. Mow the grass as soon as plants reach 3 inches, back to 2.5 inch and so this every 3-5 days. Reseed areas during this time as needed. Your lawn will be filled in no time. I had to buy the entire tank set up!!! I was so freaked out by suddenly having a beta with no tank (knowing he cannot go in with my existing beta!!!). I just rushed and did what I could. Apparently, people I know think you can put a Betta in a vase and I don't agree at all! I live 10 minutes from a Petsmart so I was able to pull it off. I just checked on him and he was in a different part of the tank swimming, he saw me and started going to the surface and looked like releasing bubbles out of mouth in a fun way. Then He nestled in again on a leaf and seemed to be sleeping. I just feel bad about all the different water types I used- I just did t have enough of the bottled one. I will heed your advice and just condition tap water in the future! My other Betta you gave me so much advise on is doing well. I'm glad I got into this- they are amazing!! i plan on doing 25% water changes once a week on both tanks with conditioned water. Glad this forum was here. I just hope this new guy will do well. I worried I stressed him too much in the rushed tank job.
