They like some shade. When they bloom, cut them back to the first node for repeat bloom, then cut the bloom stalk back to the base after the next blooms. In their favor, they're evergreen in zone 8. I think they're fond of acid soil, too. They're native to the southeastern USA. They also like dividing every 2-3 years or the fleshy roots will crowd each other out. You can take one teeny plant and by dividing, have a great long border edged with them very quickly. Nell

It's the kind that can't be captured correctly by my camera, because it has more orange in the coloring than what you see in the photo. Karen, I'm impressed that you like Ozark Jane. That one's going to have to grow on me for a while. Julie, yes, Wide Eye Bayou and Witch's Stick are a couple of my favorites too. I never thought I'd like UFOs and spiders, until I saw them blooming in my gardens. I love the way they flow in the breezes. It took me a very long time to learn to like the reds. I think I was getting tire of too many pinks, so I branched off into the darker colors. Max...I have the same challenges with some flowers too, that grow in spots where there just isn't enough sun, or maybe the soil is too clayey or dry. Yes, Mantis, Thomas Tew has really done well for me. It has just been beautiful since I planted it several years ago. I love the vibrant colors. Sorry yours had the winter damage. It is a Stamile, I think-do those generally do well for you? I did not realize how many Stamile lilies I had until recently when I began attempting to catalog some of my beds. And I do not use a camera-never have on the ones I have posted. All my pics have been phone pics. Just easier for me to carry it around in my garden apron or hop out of the car to snap. I just used the portrait option with these to blur my background weeds!!

@summersrhythm_z6a, could you maybe very closely mow/weedwhack the foliage down to the ground? You might have to do it a few consecutive years but in theory the bulbs should die out in time if you deprive them of being able to store energy via sunlight for the next year. I would also not them them flower, as they could set seeds that small creatures like ants spread. The bulbs are likely very deep, so to reach them with chemicals I think you'd have to soak the ground pretty well... sounds awful for the environment.
