Well mine are still being hardened off, actually spending the night outside two nights in a row when it was quite warm and humid and raining, but I caved in last night and brought them in. I'm in Montreal and although they weren't predicting frost, I just didn't want to take a chance. I had heard on the news that there were frost warnings in parts of Ontario so I guess I became a nervous Nellie.i can't wait to get them in their containers ASAP. Hopefully by Monday. Well I planted them anyway (as well as my zuchinni, and yellow squash) because I seeded them way too early and didn't want to wait any longer for increased risk of transplant shock. Besides I have a backup batch just in case. I guess it was better to seed more than I knew that I would need after all. My soil temp today in my raised beds was 66F and the air temp was approaching 80F with a moderate amount of humidity. Not bad considering the long-overdue rain in the Northeast most likely cooled the soil a few degrees. Will report back on Tuesday with my results, fingers crossed. BTW, if the forecast calls for cooler temps than low 40s what if the quickest way to cover them with something commonly found in a house? I posted two videos in another thread today ("will my veggies drown") so you can get an idea of my garden setup and the size of my seedlings (not even sure I can still call them that).

Until someone more knowledgeable shows up, here is my take. tjsangel--Extra mulch is added after a hard freeze that is likely to stay around for some time. It's purpose is to keep the ground frozen, and not to keep the plant warm. Hopefully, you buried the grafts on your roses 4-6 inches deep. If you didn't, I don't know what you should do now. markiz37--Put the pots in an unheated shed or similar structure, away from the light. Water occasionally. Hope that helps. Kate

Hi Phyllis, I have never had a flower over 10" either but I don't disbud and I think that you probably have to do that to get them bigger. But thats ok with me because a 9 or 10" flower is pretty impressive. Sounds like you have some wonderful new varities this year. I think I am getting Neon Splendor in a trade this fall. I love the picture of that one! How did it do for you? Some of the new ones I got this year were Hot Tamale and Punkin Spice. Hot Tamale way out performed Punkin Spice. Punkin spice didn't bloom a lot and stems were weak. They were planted right next to each other. My plants did get a little frosted last night. Some look pretty bad and others right next to them are fine. I'm a Hottie is still beautiful with about 20 blooms on it. It supposed to get down to 28 tonight so I am sure they will all be toast tomorrow. I guess thats ok because it is supposed to warm back up into the 60's so I won't be freezing while I am digging them up. I am already looking forward to next year because between the trades I am getting and the ones I have ordered I will have about 35 new ones! Judy, no my bananas don't produce fruit because the growing season here is too short. But they do get big and give that wonderful tropical look that I love. Linda
