Anyone have experience with 'Georgia Blue' Veronica??

I planted it late last spring and this is the first real bloom season it's had for me. Has been blooming nicely for at least a couple of weeks now and gorgeous but the blooms are starting to fade away. I am wondering if it will have more than 1 show of blooms on its own. And if not, would trimming it back get me a second wave??

I think this is the same groundcover I've got, and if so, it blooms just once but is very nice when in bloom. Otherwise, it's a great groundcover and very drought-tolerant. It also spreads very nicely.

I've had mine for 3 years. People kept telling me it wasn't veronica since it wasn't plumelike, but I was almost positive it was - glad to have confirmation. Anyway, the blooms will fade within another week or so, but it stays a bushy green all summer. It doesn't look ratty, just a tad wilted, in the winter. But it will spread a fair amount from year to year. I wouldn't use it as an accent plant, but use it around the base of a bigger plant. Mine is planted at the base of a rose of sharon bush.

Hi - I got this one from Ashdown not last spring but the spring before. Its been a bit of a slow starter, but is a real beauty. For me, it has not bloomed a lot yet, but then I always assume a climber will need a few years to show its stuff. However, in that it has not shown super-fast development, I'd hesitate to try it in shade. I'm in zone 6, where its perfectly hardy - couldn't say about zone 5. Since its not the most well-known of roses, why don't you try emailing Paul Zimmerman (formerly of Ashdown) and asking his advice? Good luck!

veronica 'georgia blue' vs. 'blue reflection'

'Georgia Blue' is a cultivar of a species veronica, V. umbrosa. It is not nearly as dense, spreading or as mat-forming as is the hybrid (V. pectinata and liwanensis) 'Blue Reflections'. It is also a much more intense, nearly cobalt blue - 'Blue Reflections' is more of a sky blue.

njmomma - I'm a semi professional photographer (art fairs and so forth) and use Photoshop CS. Photoshop Elements is like a Photoshop lite and can do it also MUCH cheaper. I have a blog where I'm documenting all of my gardens and landscaping with photos so I can see the progression. Not just the pretty photos but when things happen so NEXT year I'll understand the timing of everything. Like a learning project - I've only been "into" gardening for 3 years and started with a new house and mud lawn - now I have 4 gardens. I have a bunch in my front island. I think it is great, but you will have to be diligent in keeping it in check. I've found it to grow over emerging plants/flowers and crowd them out. You can come take some from my yard for free if you'd like. (Mine came from my parent's place)

Thank you both for your tips. I am very pleased with the plant as a whole and it does spread nicely and is easily rooted.

I also wondered if this was truly a Veronica/speedwell but everything I've found about it says it is. Just a different habit. I would have never thought that 'Georgia Blue' & 'Royal Candles' were related lol.
