Uh - just one correction that I hope will help: the link in Woody's post above takes one to a page on the Cobb County Website that has an INCORRECT ADDRESS! See the HOME page on that site for updated information: (Effective OCT 02,2006 the facility has moved from the Pitner road location to the Cobb County Vegetative Waste Recycling site at 2150 County Services Parkway between Austell Road and Powder Springs Road. The hours of operation at the Vegetative Waste site will be 8:00 - 5:00 Mondays through Fridays, and 9:00 to 4:00 on Saturdays. Commercial compost operations will continue Mondays through Thursdays at the Pitner Road site until further notice. DeKalb County also has... or did have... a site for free compost. It used to be behind the county jail, near where Memorial Drive crosses I285. The last time I was there, it had moved across the street and was in the Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot. The compost is black and fluffy... and absolutely free.

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 10th is Recycling Day at Your Dekalb Farmers Market on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Decatur from 10am to 2pm. Bring along your recyclables for a free nursery plant or wire compost bin - while they last. There will be demonstrations about home composting, soil preparation, worm composting, native plants, shade plants, vegetable gardening, recycling crafts for kids and more. Got more county compost today. Compost was compact again. The awesome auger worked just fine. It's a shame that there are so many complaints about hidden charges, since the product almost works as advertised (It says no bending, which is only true for shorter people).
