I'd pull the bud apart and look inside to see if there's a bug or something in there. Is the stem that the dried up bud is on still healthy? Certainly sounds strange. Cheers, Russ

You know, the temps are getting up into the 90's. I've really watched them, and tried watering a bit twice a day, and they seem better. Southgate's buds have popped successfully (YAY!), and First Love hasn't dropped anymore..... My Hidcote Beauty does have some small white scale though. Not mealies...more like pure, snowy white aphid looking things. Okay to spray w/pesticide, Kath? LOVING my fuchsias, and the books that arrived on them.....rue'd not checking the forum before ordering though...=) Kathleen in TX

Are you letting the soil in the pot dry out slightly (but not completely) between watering? Stick your finger about an inch into the soil - if it feels "slightly" moist then you have the green light to re-water. Are all of the buds drying up and falling, or just some of them? I have a few buds that do that from time to time. Also check for mites under the buds and leaves - look for leaf curling, webbing on the undersides, etc. They might be sucking the saps right out of the flower buds. A sharp blast of water should knock most of them off, but don't do it too hard. If they are on the plant and that doesn't work, try a mix of dish soap and water (about 1 to 10 mixture). If your humidity is on the low side the buds can dry out too... fill a planter tray with gravel, rocks, shards, etc and set the pot on TOP of the tray of gravels so the water that drains can evaporate and increase humidity. Jasmines also like slightly acidic soil - since you repotted it it's probably around the right pH (5.8-6.0) but a few coffee grounds couldn't hurt - this will stop any yellowing of leaves. And of course, fertilizing regularly might help, too. If it's a Jasminum polyanthum remember they generally like 4-6 weeks of temperatures below 60 degrees (but not lower than 40) to set an abundance of buds - any other time they will sporadically flower. I have a leucospermum vlam which I have kept alive for 2 years. Last spring I was excited to see blossoms, but they dried up and never completely opened. How can I prevent this from happening again this spring? I use no fertilizer, only water about once a week.
