The camellias are in bloom, my neighbours rose bush is in bloom, cherry blossom trees are in full bloom, daffodils are out - all 3-8 weeks early. If we get a late frost the gardens are in trouble. However, Snow levels are non-existence, ski hills are closed 2 months early, temperatures are way above normal and there is virtually no snow pack. We need winter to prevent water restrictions, to keep the ground wet to prevent forest fires, to keep the river levels high for salmon spawning and to allow irrigation for the orchards and farmland. If we don't get a late winter to build the snow pack or a really wet spring we're in big trouble. Neither is in the long range forecast.
