Has anyone tried 'Deer Fortress' deer repellent?

Has it worked for you? They are $26.49 for 6 at my garden shop.

I have never heard of this before.I use deer scram which is granulateed stuff to sprinkle around.It works pretty good for a month then have to put more out.

need to be reapplied. It "sounds" great...The cups are green and won't show, it says it lasts all season, but YIKES, it is scary to use my daylily collection as a guinea pig, to find out if it works the way they claim :o) I live in the mountains and herds of 7-10 deer are constant visitors.

I have terrible deer problems. They eat young shoots and leaves when browsing but the worst damage is during rutting. I have probably lost 20 trees completely and have at least half of my trees with trunk damage. I had tries soap, hair, Liquid fence and homemade concoctions with very little effect. Last spring I bought some Plantskydd and sprayed it in late may when they started browsing on the new growth on young trees. It kept them totally untouched until late Sept. I then sprayed again at leaf drop and had absolutely no rut damage last winter. I am a believer. While it does stain clothes the smell is unnoticable after 2 or 3 days and all you have to treat is the area which is easily reachable by the deer, so fruit is not treated. Drawback is its cost. Its only dried pig blood. I sprayed it in the past but that takes a lot of straining. I'm going to try painting this yr. RED

Deer ain't stupid. They will eventually outsmart any barriers you install. A hungry deer will browse in a highway median totally ignoring the traffic. It would probably take a season for them to learn the sonic warning meant nothing - just like it takes only a month or so for them to learn that soap is harmless or that a fat dog can only run so fast. Feeding them only makes the problem worse. Plenty of people have been attacked by stags in 'rut' because they have been conditioned to live in and around people. (rut, is the male equivalent to being in 'heat'. They go crazy with lust and attack anything deer sized that they perceive to be a opponent). The only thing that really works is a deer fence, either the wooden stockade type or the virtually invisible black netting type. And even they need to be maintained and properly installed. If you do a search back through the archives of this forum you will find plenty of posts about deer eating plants on the popular 'deer proof' lists. All deer nibble on everything, when they find something they like (which can change from night to night) they all take a healthy serving. Young deer will chew on anything, even the poisonous plants. If I lived in a deer prone neighborhood, and was not allowed to install a proper deer excluding fence to protect my garden, I would move.

We have 7' deer netting around the veggie garden supported by metal stakes. It's left in place all year round. It seems to work around this smaller area. We also have a deer fence around our 3.5 acres, but the deer keep on busting through it, so it's not always a trustworthy method of protecting plants. One year for a fall garden, we tried using row cover material supported by PVC hoops in a similar way to the wire covering you show because all we had to protect was lettuce and collards. Wouldn't you know that the deer actually pawed through (hoofed through) the row cover to get to the lettuce. Me and the deer are going to have a throwdown soon.

About the DMSO and pets roaming the yard, if you wanted to be very cautious I'd let it dry before letting pets wander. Ask anyone that has horses and they'll tell you that they rub all kinds of linaments and medications onto horses with DMSO. Some people rub DMSO directly on their own skin at full strength. It's about as harmful as putting an ounce of alcohol into a solution of a gallon. About those items at Lowes - geez, the reviews at Lowe's own site are mostly terrible. About the Milorganite. I'm a lawn freak and use three tons (no kidding!) of the stuff on my property per year. It works, but the deer get accustomed to it after a while. The same thing with Blood Meal.

Has anyone used these wireless deer fence? Basically cattle prods that you stick around the garden & zap the deer.

3/$60 plus S&H. OTOH the spray ain't cheap and you have to keep reapplying.

I first used Deer Fortress this spring and love it - it really works! I've used other products, including Liquid Fence, but reapplying was a hassle. I haven't had to reapply Deer Fortress and it's been almost three months. I have the Deer Fortress stakes/containers in both my flower and vegetable gardens, and both have been deer-free all spring and summer. I've recommended Deer Fortress to my neighbors (we live in a urban area that is densely populated with deer), and they have had similiar success with this product.
