Four Season Vegetable Gardening

For the third year in a row, my squash and pumpkins have produced buds but then they have dried up and died. I have been fighting off moles in my yard. I don't know if it is because they are eating the roots or is it something else? I had tons of buds and one by one they have disappeared. does anyone know what this could be from?

In the beginning I think they produce mostly male flowers. The female flowers are the ones that produce fruit. They need to be pollinated or they die. I have gotten no squash this year on my Cushaws. I think they have to be pollinated by bees. We only have two or three honeybees if we are lucky and they are gone now. You can hand pollinate. Google it. I just never get around to it. Maybe next year.

Moles?? Are you sure they're not voles? But whatever they are I doubt they're the problem.

As Zackey says, if the flowers aren't fertilised they'll drop off.

Thanks Seil. Yes we have had hot dry weather BUT none of my other roses, HTs or Austins, have been afflicted. I hand water the raised bed that St. Patrick is in. (It is raised but built over soil) If I had omitted watering for this plant, would this happen? I water 2 or 3 times each week. So the most this plant, if I missed it, would have gone without water is less than a week. andreark

Yeppers, I wick everything and add 1/2 to 1 part extra perlite, 'cause you can't make it too light. Everybody seems happy with this mix. I don't use charcoal any more, and I've had no problems. Hardy Hibiscus-yellowing buds

My hardy hibiscus are in their second year and I am having two problems: 1. Occassionally just one stalk on a plant wilts. Water is my first thought, but the soil is moist. Comments? 2. Some buds are yellowing and then falling off or yellowing, turning brown then falling off. Some buds are beginning to bloom on the same plants. What to do about the dying buds? Thanks so much!

I don't know what the problem with the inflo is. Maybe it's just a young plant and doesn't have enough of a root system to support the bloom. That sometimes happens with my newly rooted plants that develop inflos. The flowers should look much better nest season. The plant in your ginger is a weed. Get rid of it.
