can you suggest some plants?

Is there anything other than a cactus that will grow in pure sand? (Z5b) I would love a combination of medium height perennials (maybe herbs) and some ground covers. Might lavender make it?

They would be for a 2-4" gap between where our paver patio ends and the house foundation starts. This gap is filled with gravel then 5" of pure sand. Our original plan was to cover this gap with decorative stone. Lately, I've been wanting to soften the look.

It gets full to partial sun, no rain, but maybe I could offer 1/3" inch of watering a week. Anything more, and DH will get nervous about the foundation of the house and patio.

I would love to hear your ideas. Thank you!
