About Stella d'oro Lilies

I have both - regular daylilies and the stellas.

I know exactly how to take care of the daylilies, but here's my question re: Stellas

I had huge clumps that just had to be divided (into four big plants and actually could have been eight new plants)..

The foliage was mostly yellowish/browning - even though I would still get reblooms. I gave away a lot of them, but kept some for myself in a holding bed. (Where they originally were is a border now with different plants).

I couldn't stand looking at the floppy foliage, so I cut some back to about four or five inches.

Was that a mistake? Thanks (I always left the old foliage before the plants were divided - but never liked how they looked).

thanks

Carrie
