Our plants which were winter protected by covering with about 4 inches of soil, and came through without any damage from our minus 11 degrees Fahrenheit winter were Ronde de Bordeaux, Marseilles Black VS, Sal's Corleone, Violetta, Brooklyn White, and Hardy Hartford. Hardy Hartford and Marseilles Black VS had no damage what so ever. Kathleen's Black, and Danny's Delight had the most damage. The damage that Danny's delight suffered really surprised me. For us Hardy Hartford has proven to be one of our most cold hardy. The original plant took minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit in Hartford without winter protection, and was around eight feet when I took cuttings in March. Bob

We were at a nursery, and my uncle ran into an excessively knowledgeable supervisor (I mean seriously knowledgeable!). After talking to him about lots of things, my uncle suddenly thought of the fig tree. He described the problem to him, and the supervisor asked whether the stains were near the stem (indicating the sides of the heel of his hand) or nearer the far tips of the leaves (indicating his fingertips). My uncle replied that they were near the stem. The supervisor, without hesitation, replied that the tree had gotten too much water. He assured us that this was no fungus or disease, merely too much water. Sure enough, we had recently had a lot of rain, and my uncle had watered the tree a couple of times. Now that it hasn't rained much in a bit, the tree started looking better -- until we had another deluge a few days ago, and a bunch more leaves curled up. Hopefully, with some dry days, it'll recover. Thank you to everyone who looked and tried to figure this out! :)

It is hard to tell what variety it is - there are many hundreds of named varieties and many 'unknowns' that are great tasting and have been propagated widely as well. Many leaves look similar, many fruits look similar. The important question is "how does it taste?" If it tastes great to you, assuming you have let them get completely ripe, then enjoy them, propagate the cuttings and share with friends, etc The best way to identify it is to find out from whoever planted it, otherwise it is just an educated guess.

Yes Bob, I wish there was more of us here, I was never as quiet here as this spring. I am really happy that Martin posts here every so often. Really Thank you Martin ❣ I should have buy larger wheels ! Live and learn 🤣 This is how I am doing with my little 3x3x9 feel low greenhouse or Christmas lights on for night. The other night was 24 F, inside greenhouse was 39 F, it scared me so I added a few stronger light bulbs. This are fig trees on palleto n wheels buding. Cheers.
