Seedling still growing AFTER damping off/ What will it do next?

I tried grow all three natural types of redwoods from seed this fall/ now... The california redwoods were the first to germinate, a total of 3 or 4 out of the 16 I planted. The first 2 died by damping off. On out of the second 2 never lost its seed coat, and inflated the stalk instead. The other grew well, but I might not of given them enough light- they both shriveled up (not damping off)

But, one of the first 2 seeds that germinated damped off shortly after its hypocotyl arch popped out of the soil it damped off, leaving the seed intact in the ground. Well, the seedling kept growing, upside-down, and now green is showing at the bottom of the new shoot where the cotyledons are.

Will this upside-down seedling grow a new root system and form a new apical meristem, or will it just fall out of the seedcoat when the cotyledons are fully expanded and die... if they do end up expanding....

either way, I have never seen a seedling continue to grow after damping off....
