It seems everyone's rudeness sensitivity has a different adjustment. If you want to see rude, flip on over to the Soils forum or the Organic Gardening forum where it is too common to gang up on one member and flat out call him stupid in so many words. On the corn gluten meal thread which ZS started a week or so ago, he said I had accused him of something but he would ignore it because he wanted to remain positive. It seems to me that ZS is egging us on by posting quotes that fly in the face of what has become common knowledge. When we try to explain either what is wrong with the quote or where the quote left off vital information or where the source quote was taken out of context, then the tone of the messages changes for the worse. To me it is clear who threw the first punch on this thread. Tiemco asked some questions and ZS bit his head off. I offered some clarification and got my head bit off. ZS if you prefer to read books and do not like to read what we have to say in this forum, then why are you here? I'm not saying there is no reason to be here, I'm simply asking why you are here? Are you here to offer us the benefit of what you have read? If that is the case then we will respond completely differently. Most people come here to find out if what they have read holds water. We have made that assumption with you. If we have been giving you advice when you were not looking for it, then that might be the root of the antagonism. Giving unwanted advice is considered rude to a lot of folks. Please let us know. You can establish your credentials based on what you read outside the forums and we'll leave it alone. I might add that disagreeable messages are one reason that forums lose membership. I've seen some really great people leave this forum simply because of one or two members who pestered them mercilessly. If you would not like to receive our thoughts and comments on your threads, it is easy enough to make that happen. Since I seem to be a catalyst for you, ZS, and since I don't see where my remarks are setting you off, then I'll stop replying with these thoughts and let you go.

Not a Californian, but when the nighttime lows start to be around 45 it gets my attention, so now is a good time to start "dusting off the greenhouse." I have plants in there year round, but now I'll get my electric heaters out of storage and plug them into the thermostats. We've had some lows in the high 40s, so it's also time to start moving my non-hardy potted plants off the patios and into their winter home. The crew that lives in the greenhouse year round gets shifted into tighter formations, to make room for the others. Lugging those big pots around is not quite as much fun as it was when I was a few years younger. Fall never seems to last long enough...

Carolyn, I agree with you. I put out my outside tomatoes after May 1, usually around the 5th. Since I market garden and I can get higher prices for early tomatoes, I plant them in my high tunnel as early as possible and sometimes I get burned! The forecast is for daytime highs in the 60-70's and lows in mid 30's to 40's. Inside my high tunnel, I can keep it in the 50's with row cover and get a big head start with them. This year just wasn't my year. Here is an update on my loses. Hoop building #1 102 Tomato plants in the building. 53 appear to be fine, 16 have some damage, but I think they will come out of it. 33 are TOASTED! I have about 20 extras to replant with, so I will have to buy around 13-30 new plants. Not a big problem. Hoop Building #2 27 Cherry tomato plants. 26 appear to be fine, 1 with damage. This was really surprising. There was 3 layers of row cover and the hot water 2 liter bottles placed every other plant. That was a good idea. All in all, I am out about $15-25 to buy some new plants. This is depending on the price. Could be less or it could be more.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think I was most concerned about spreading the germs to the rest of the family--although I realize the horse is already out of the barn on that one! And, I was wondering what my high-priced Miele (which I love BTW) Sanitize function would actually do. Parrot Phan - I agree that it'll just be more comfortable for my DS if the sheets are fresh. Also, I was wondering about re-infecting DS or infecting others with those sheets. I guess it's immaterial cause the germs are all around. Still I am glad to sanitize them, even if just for psychological benefit. Deke - sorry, I am not in health care, although as a stay-at-home Mom, in a way I am LOL. Asolo - according to my Miele's instruction booklet, the Sanitize function is 95 Celsius which according to my calculation is 203 fahrenheit. So, perhaps worth the big bucks for the machine plus the electrician's installing the 240V/15A line and receptacle that enable it to come up to that temp? Well, I did wash the sheets in the Sanitize function, and they came out great. Maybe it's just the psychological benefit, but somehow I am feeling better about the sheets. My son is now less congested, and more in the endless-runny-nose phase. So far, no one else in the family has the cold. (BTW, these sheets are very soft heavy flannel from Amazon's own line called Pinzon 190-gram flannel. I bought them just to try, and have been very impressed by their quality. I have various flannel sheets from other stores or websites, but none is as nice as the Pinzon. Not spam, just a G'webber recommendation!)
