I had a similar issue recently and it was this Florida heat. However, mine were not browning from inside out, they were browning from the edges in, curling then dying. I shaded with this shade cloth and it got much better.

There is a product called Cloud Cover Plant Protector. It's organic, and acts like shade cloth in very hot areas. It also protects from freezes. Google it.

Hi dobecka It looks like a combination of heat and rust. I'm sure others will weigh in. Not much we can do for heat but you can try a copper spray for the rust it will not cure infected leaves but will help with new leaves. Do not mix stronger than label and probably best this time of year to mix weaker and with follow up applications. Best time to spray is at bud break and with some follow up before fruit forms.

Dave, I have not found it necessary to use Cloud Cover on my figs because they are both in Morning/Midday sun, and in shade in the hot afternoons, but I do use it on my baby grapevines that show wilt, and also on my citrus in winter against freeze.

It's a good product and protects against transpiration.

I am growing North of Austin and have not had any noticeable effect from the heat. All of my trees were planted this year (although some were older than others). I'm down to watering my trees about once per week for the individually planted trees, and every two-three days for the cuttings in the area I have for those propagated this year (even with the temps around 100F+). All are in full sun all day. I don't think heat should cause too much of a problem for most fig trees.

Some varieties are more susceptible to heat damage (I used to grow a Petite Negri in a container which had a hard time with heat). As Jaybird indicated, the leaves normally dry up from the edges back.

One thing I would suggest is to clear out some of the grass around the base of the tree and lay down a thick layer of mulch. I cut a 6' diameter circle around my trees and mulched a ring between 4' & 5'

Cloud Cover Plant Protector is ethylene glycol, which is what antifreeze is. Very poisonous liquid.

We have 4 older trees - 3 - 5 years old. We just got a great crop from them. Ours look like the pictures posted here. We thought it was lack of water and have started watering. But we have had about 3 weeks in the triple digits here, so it is probably heat.
