We live in Campbell CA and have lost a few trees already (Plum, Cypress, Bottle Brush), and now both of our orange trees are under attack. One is about dead, and the other is showing signs of the same black branch. Seems to start at the tops of the tree and work its way down, although I see smaller signs of the black branch throughout the trees. We have tried deep watering, fertilizer but notthe sure if this is something else. Help! We love the orange tree and dont want to lose this.

Fig trees are extremely resilient. Although it dropped it's leaves due to water stress, it will, no doubt, start sprouting leaves again with regular watering, although I wouldn't expect to see any figs this season. If an 8 year old tree dropped it's leaves after a week, I take it that it is in a pot(??). If so, get it out of the direct sun for a spell until it starts budding again. I left the watering of my yard in the charge of a friend, several years ago, for 10 days, which he, in turn, sent his girlfriend over to water , which ultimately lead to the total death and destruction of everything that was growing in my yard. I always say, If you want dead plants, put them in the charge of your friends when you go on vacation. Hang in there. Your tree will shine again. FF

You're not getting many answers because this section is for edible figs. Your ficus lyrata doesn't fall into that category. Confusing, I know. Especially since the ficus lyrata is nicknamed "fiddle leaf fig." I grow a few ficus Benjamina, which has the same cultural needs as your plant. A. Give it more light. A lot more. Right up in front of a south facing window is best. B. Use a sharpened dowel stuck deep in the soil to tell if it's time to water. If it comes out dark, damp and stained with soil, do not water. Check daily until it comes out clean and dry. Then water. Don't water on your schedule, water as the plant needs it. C. Did you pot up or repot? Potting up means you'd take the plant out of the pot with roots and soil intact and place in a larger pot with fresh soil on the bottom and sides. That method isn't helpful if the plant is rootbound. Repotting means you remove ALL soil from around the roots, untangle and prune roots and then place into a fresh soil. What did you use for soil anyway? your issues are likely from lack of light and overwatering.

The first 2 pics look like ACP the third and fourth pics look like CLM but the latter is the least of your worries. If the ACP's are carrying greening disease your tree is done for, especially if you're in Florida. I suggest you call your local ag extension today and send them your pictures and they'll probably want to come to your house and collect some of the bugs to test them and your tree for HLB. If your tree tests positive for HLB they will remove it. HLB has pretty much decimated the citrus industry in FL and is rampant in that state. Probably not the best news for you today but that's what I see from your pics. Evan
