I don't have a double daylily. Wally may have to be my first.

I have to admit that I like the doubles and unusual form ones the best! I have quite a few doubles.

If you are serious about wanting Wally, I did a search, and I found several sellers that have "him".

Mary lu, Wally is a beauty, I only have one double Apricot Beauty not blooming yet, I didn't think I liked the doubles but seeing yours is making me change my mind.

I checked around here, and didn't find Wally. Do you get your daylilies locally, or do you order them? It looks like our zones are similar. Is there still time to order and plant them? I may be interested in finding another double, while I'm at it. I could do a search, but if you have experience with any of the ones you found, I should get the information from you. I haven't ordered plants since I was in my twenties (30 years ago) and buying herbs from catalogs because they were not available locally. Now, they are everywhere!

Sue, you might want to check out the daylily forum for good advice on sellers. I did a search on "buy from" and got several post talking about where to buy. As I mentioned on the gallery, I was lucky to have a local grower to buy from, now retired. I did mail order in the beginning from Oakes who does sell very nice plants. However they usually are somewhat $$ compared to others. Just depends on what you are looking for.

When I searched I think I found Wally for as little as $8 but again, I haven't mail ordered from those places. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I found a place in Ohio, Daylilies by the Pond that has Wally. Now, I need to decide if I'm going to get more, as the shipping is for 2, and then you only pay .50 for each additional plant. They have a whole bunch to choose from, and I could go pretty crazy. They have a variety of prices, and my eyes keep landing on the $40.00 ones. Wally was $6 or $8. Then, I realized I need to learn more about the descriptions. They have abbreviations, and I can figure some of them out, but not all. I printed out a glossary of terms, but the abbreviations are not shown, so I still don't know what some of them mean. I don't know if it matters, since I have some very pretty day lilies, and don't even know their names!

I need to call them, because I'm not sure if they ship this time of year. Is now an OK time to plant them? Do they come with dirt? I just planted some I dug from a place that went out of business. By the time I got there, there wasn't much left, though. All are doing fine, except the one I didn't plant until the next day is struggling.

I checked out the Daylily group, and read a few posts. The search I did didn't get to the type of info I was looking for. I can post these questions there, but thought I'd ask you first.

I believe a lot of places will still ship at this time of year. I have planted at almost all different times of the summer. The daylily bed that I have posted pics of was planted in late June or early July.

Most DLs will come bareroot, no dirt. The foliage will also be trimmed back. This helps the plant re-establish sooner as it will not have to work to support the foliage, but instead work on building a root system. I have found the only thing to remember is that they will need more water at this time of the year than they would if planted in spring.

As far as names go? Well, I do know the names for most of mine, but over the years, some of the tags get lost, etc. What I try to do is take a picture of the bloom and label it. Then if the tag gets lost, you can always look at the pictures to remind yourself.

I called Daylilies by the Pond, and it sounds like a family home business that the wife does most of the work for. She was in the garden, and her dh took the phone out to her. She answered the questions I still had about her abbreviations, and was very nice. We ended up talking for 14 minutes! She said she'll be shipping the first week of August because it's peak bloom season right now. She was out deadheading and was going to do some hybridizing. She said she has some of her plants on sale, so to email her what I want, and she'll let me know how much they are. She has lots to choose from, so I need to look through them all and decide how many and which ones. She said she likes Wally, too. ;o)

Well, I have had my Wally in the ground since early August, and it is doing well, as are the Spring Rite, and others whose names I'm not remembering right now. It was a pleasure to do business with Daylilies by the Pond.

Where is Wally? "He" is to the right of the purple flower, (a celosia or salvia do you know, I can't remember?), just to the left of the orange lantana, and near the red hot poker, which I'm planning on dividing in the spring.
