I have three very interesting and informative article to share with you. I just discovered the USDA's Digital Documents Repository (DDR)

http://agspace.nal.usda.gov:8080/dspace/ and located the first two documents below. A side note first. If you seek scientific papers, specifically ones that you can only view the abstract because the hosting organization needs payment, there is a good chance that a nearby university library subscribes to various online journals making it possible to view them if you are doing deeper research on fig related topics.

The first document is very current, covers a wide range of topics concerning the common edible fig, and also is very scientific. For those of you who are not interested in the science, there is still a lot of good information within. It is 83 pages long and it is a large 5.8mb PDF file. 'The Fig:Botany, Horticulture and Breeding by Moshe A. Flaishman, Victor Rodov, and Ed Stover.

http://agspace.nal.usda.gov:8080/dspace/bitstream/10113/15714/1/IND44035516.pdf

The next document is much shorter and concise. It discusses basic but interesting information about the edible fig - a good introduction. 'The Fig: Overview of an Ancient Fruit' by Ed Stover, Mallikarjuna Aradhya, Carlos and Lousie Ferguson 2007. http://agspace.nal.usda.gov:8080/dspace/bitstream/10113/7459/1/IND43939073.pdf

Lastly, I came across a site that I don't think has been mentioned before. Occasionally I see recipes posted and thought this might be of some interest from the Pick Your Own website.

Article on Canning Figs - http://www.pickyourown.org/pdfs/figs_canning.pdf

Making Fig Jam - http://www.pickyourown.org/pdfs/figjam.pdf

Their website - http://www.pickyourown.org/figrecipes.htm

I hope that you find this interesting. If you are interested in deeper research on this topic, please feel free to contact me. I am happy to share the links to papers that I have located.
