Hi, I live in Saigon where it is hot and humid. I have a kumquat tree in a pot on my balcony which I got at the end of June last year. It arrived in a black plastic sack and looked a bit sorry. I planted it in a largeish pot with fresh compost and it responded by growing loads of new leaves, and after a couple of months it was covered in flowers which filled the balcony with lovely scent. Then came the fruit. About six weeks ago the leaves turned yellow and a few dropped. The leaves have white/grey flecks, which are a leaf coloration and not mites or anything like that. About two weeks ago it started to flower again and now we have what looks like a sick tree with both flowers and fruit on it. I have attached a link to a pic of the leaf coloration (its in my drop box). Can anyone please advise how to make my tree healthy again? Hi Rose, its quite possible too much water. Here near chicago its been warm and i notice lowest leaves are similar as your description. In my case its the water coming out of watering can and or hose hitting the lowest leaves each day sometimes resting on top of soil thats doing it for me. Al helped me greatly when I was having so much trouble with my young fig trees this spring. I originally used regular garden soil (bagged) and there was no drainage, then, I repotted them in MG Moisture Control potting soil and that was even worse because the soil stayed sodden. Al suggested I put wicks in one of the holes in the bottoms of the pots, so I did and that even did no good, so I got some Fafard Professional Potting Mix and repotted them again and used the wicks while the plants were little, but pulled them from the pots when the root ball developed. The wicks are made from string mop refills and can be found at Wal-Mart and they are RAYON, not cotton. You need to read the package to make sure they are rayon. You cut one to a shorter length and can feed it up into the pot if the plant is already in the pot. I used a screwdriver and wet the wick and then folded a little of the top over for the screwdriver to grab onto and then stuck it up into the hole in the bottom of the pots. The rayon doesn't stay soggy, but provides a pathway for perched water to find its way out of the bottom of the pot and into the ground. Hope that's not confusing. Perched water is water that sits in the bottom of the pot and never drains out, which will end up killing the little roots and then the plant. Did I get that right, Al, if you see this? :) noss

My sick Tiwain Fig Bonsai's gettin' worse. As you can see by this latest photo taken this PM, he's down to a little over three dozen leaves. I've got a grow lamp on him constantly, moisture gauge after the last re-potting still shows 5 on the 1 t0 10 scale. Not too much, not to little. So no pot watering yet. Still misting him a few times each day. I've tried everything but mouth to mouth resuscitation. For more info, you can reference my first cry for help,............................ "sick bonsai.....help. This little guy doesn't seem to be a happy boy right now. If anyone can throw me a bone of advise, I'd sure appreciate it. I'd like to save this little guy..... Could it possibly be a natural occurrence?... Could he loose all his leaves and still snap back?... At some point should I trim all the limbs back like I see 'em do to the lilacs down here in Florida just before winter?.... This little guy ain't no lillac!....
