Can I transplant a fig tree 2.5 feet deeper than what it is now?

I have an Improved Brown Turkey that is probably about 10 feet tall, with the first branch starting at around 6 feet.

So its a tall tree. I plan to move that tree to my mom's house next year because I need to make room for a more reliable fig, such as Desert King.

But this year, I'll let the Brown Turkey grow and see if it can produce out of curiousity. Then when it is dormant, I will move the tree.

Question: When transplanting a fig tree that is too tall, can I bury it about two feet deeper than what it is right now if the root system is already well established. This way the overall height of the tree will be lower? This way, instead of the first branch starting at 6 feet, it'll now be at 4 feet. Anyone ever tried that? Will that hurt the tree to bury it that deep?

I'm have a really nice canopy going for the brown turkey right now, so I really don't want to chop the tree's height down, as that means destroying the existing canopy.

Thus, my idea was to just bury it 2 or 2.5 feet deeper than what it is now?

Any input?
