Caring for a potted fig tree

I am new to this fig growing stuff. As a kid, my parents had a few fig trees that I remember them wrapping every year. Then they stopped wrapping them and they grew very well (with some fall pruning) for years, until we sold the house.

Now I have purchased two nice size trees ( about 4' above the pot) very reasonably (only $100.00 ea) from a grower in Calverton NY.

But I am not sure as to the care for these potted plants.

I have added about 1" of granular lime (almost impossible to find here) to the top of each pot.

But I hear much about root bound and other things, do I need to remove them from the pot every year and trim the roots?

Is there a bagged soil (the guy I got them from says to use PROMIX SOIL) or do I need to formulate my own soil?

I actually have bunches of questions, is there a faq around for this?

Thank you in advance for all the help.

Michael
