Cross-pollinated, but won't bloom

Hi! About 3 years ago, my daughter crossed two daylilies, we collected the seeds, planted them the following spring, let them grow in pots for a year, planted the tiny things in the garden in the fall, and let them grow. They haven't ever bloomed, though, and I would have thought that by now, this being their second year in the garden, they would be able to do so. The two plants we crossed are both blooming right now, so I would think this is the right time of summer for them. Is it possible to wind up with a plant that can't bloom?

Any help would be appreciated. I told my daughter she'd have to be patient, but this is beyond any time I ever expected!

Karen
