This is just theory. If La Paz was made between a cross between a diploid x tetraploid then the result would be a triploid resulting in an infertile plant. If the self-polinated flowers indeed create fertile seeds, then that would debunk this theory.

My new La Paz will be blooming in the next week or two. There are two scapes. Misty is currently in bloom.

Emerald (last year's) has a scape just now emerging, so won't be ready in time.

I am trying to save pollen and have some saved from Papilio Improved (J. Scheepers). Little anthers from Misty and Ruby Meyers were just collected, so I should have those also.

Exotic Star may or may not bloom in time. Lima was my first diploid to bloom, but I regret that I didn't save pollen.

Supreme Garden may or may not be opened in time.

Did you self Ruby Meyer? How about Misty?

Any suggestions on what to try?

I have been wondering the same about La Paz myself.

Using stored pollen on what I've have bloom, I note these failures:

Emerald, Lima, Limona, and Oskar. Too soon to tell with Supreme Garden, but I'm not expecting it to work, especially with the failures I've already had and the poor results of others.

I had been worried that the pollen had somehow died (I guess that's what you call it) though all my other pollens have proved viable so far. I take you all have been using fresh pollen. Otherwise, I might suspect that pollen form La Paz just doesn't last long.

I may have caused my La Paz to abort the scape that had just started to show a few weeks ago by watering it. The tiny bud tip soon yellowed and can no longer be seen. The bulb is large and very firm and otherwise healthy.

My La Paz after puuting out 2 or 3 scapes last year produced a LOT of babies, maybe 5-6 of them. It is resting now with no new growth and loosing some older leaves. I think La Paz does not like cold weather. If I remember right, I did pollinate it's flowers last summer but the seedpods aborted.

I never did get any seed to set on LaPaz but the pollen did work well on Ruby Meyer.I think every single one of 100 seeds germinated and is growing pretty well. About 75% have the dark red blush on the leaves from Ruby Meyer but the faster growers are the 25% green leafed. It is sending up another scape so I will give it another try with a different set of partners.I have to say LaPaz is not one of my favorites,I much prefer Ruby Meyer.I did not self Ruby Meyer.
Misty neither set seed nor pollinated anything viable last year. I have no clue as to it's parentage but it could be a triploid. I will of course try again, it has a pretty face and I can see it looking very nice with several crosses.
Emerald,if I remember correctly,did not produce viable seed. It did pollinate Ruby Meyer and Pink Floyd. The seedlings are growing ok but not a tremendously vigorus cross. Since it's a papilio cross it just might give you some seed in combination with Exotic Star or papilio improved.
If you would like some pollen to play with just let me know. I have puniceum,Pink Floyd is about ready,a noid fragrant white trumpet that is breeding dip and lots of Cupido & Jade Serpent. Oh,Baby Doll too-it seems to set pods on everything! Lora

My La Paz is in scape, and should be opening within the next couple of weeks.

Exotic Start is just barely starting to open.

Ruby Meyer has 4 blooms opened. I will try the selfing on one of the blooms just to see. I have some saved Papilio pollen, so I might try that on one of them.

Misty is open, but the stigma is tiny and not opening. Blooms are lasting longer than I anticipated.

I adore Amputo, but it's going to be awhile before that one opens. Last year, I crossed it with Johnsonii and produced quite a few seed. Johnsonii tends to have red scapes, so I'm not surprised that some of the Johnsonii X Johnsonii has red on the back of the leaves. I would also estimate 25% are doing this. The seeds were at least 6 months old when planted, so I am pleased with these seedlings.

I would love to have some pollen. I do not have puniceam, Cupido, Jade Serpent or Baby Doll and my Pink Floyd has never bloomed for me. This is really my first year to purchase very many bulbs from catalogs. Most of my collection are Tets and were purchased locally, but I have fallen for the diploid and more species look.

lora-the tepals in your 2nd picture look really sparkly. Does it have a lot of diamond dust to it?

La Paz has a bud that will open in the next day or two. Exotic Star should have a new bloom about the same time.

Misty is still opening blooms and Ruby Meyer is fully opened. I tried Misty on two of the Ruby Meyer and Ruby Meyer on two of the Misty blooms. We'll see..

For some unknown reason, I felt compelled to try Misty on Amourette which is in full bloom, but has another scape coming up.

Green Goddess is in full bloom. Calgary has 4 out of 5 blooms opened. Exotica has a crippled looking bloom opening (it started budding before arrival), but has 2 more scapes.

Dancing Queen and Cocktail are trying to open.

Pink Impression and San Remos are just starting to open.

These are all new to me bulbs, except for Calgary. Most of my potted older bulbs will not be blooming until later this month and into March and April. Emerald and Elvas are among the few older bulbs that are starting to develop buds.

We are approaching Amaryllis time here. I look forward to that every year!

Oh elizabeth, I envy all your promising flowers. Except for my last Lemon and Lime blooming now (WOW the 3rd scape has 6 flowers! the earlier 2 had just 4 each) and for my unnamed new bud coming up, I have no more blooms to look forward to. I hope you will keep me drooling over you photos, m'dear!
