Many people living in new communities find it overwhelming and sometimes

discouraging to turn their muddy outdoor spaces into lush green inviting

garden retreats, fighting against the disadvantages brought on by our

harsh climate and short growing season. Yet in the 10 year old

community of McKenzie Towne passionate gardeners are inspired by the

old-fashioned people friendly architecture of their homes and shops to

dive in and compliment these by creating beautiful relaxing gardens.

Their love of gardening has spurred the creation of the McKenzie Towne

Gardening Club, which for six years now has been meeting once a month to

enjoy informative speakers and to share gardening delights and dilemmas.

The highlight of the gardening club is the annual Public Gardening

Tour, where many of McKenzie Towne's most beautiful and inspiring

gardens will be open to the public. The tour evokes an atmosphere of a

Sunday afternoon stroll through charming gardens, sipping lemonade and

enjoying the musical interludes of local performers. The 5th annual

McKenzie Towne Gardening Tour will be held on Sunday July 24th from 9-4

and the cost per adult is $3.00.. Each garden featured is unique in

its size, maturity, features, design and of course plant material. Even

though many of the gardens are only 4-6 years old, they are considered

mature for McKenzie Towne, yet younger gardens will also be featured to

show that virgin spaces can be very inspiring as well.
