Your island bed is beautiful!! I have phlox and rabbits and I haven't seen any damage to my phlox so maybe its the woodchucks that are the bad boys in your case. No suggestions on what you can use to keep them out. I tried putting out bloodmeal for the rabbits but they won that battle.

Tell me, what do you have planted on the small trellis on the left (red flowers)? I love how you have put an ornamental grass in the background...it looks wonderful!

You could try fox urine. You can get it in some garden centers but also at places that sell hunting supplies. Hunters use it to disguise their own scent from wild animals. But it certainly scares away rabbits, although I'm not usre if it works on woodchucks, but it should. I use it occasionally on my veggie garden, but I''ve never had a problem with critters in my flowers. Cheryl

What about round cages of chicken wire? Not the prettiest, but certainly works for me in a back yard with free range chickens and ducks, and a huge bulldozer of a dog.

Chicken wire comes in several heights, I usually go for the 24" stuff. I leave it in place until I feel the plant can fend for itself, usually about a month.

I have run into this problem in the past with hollyhocks. Last year I bought the plastic fencing that is similar to chicken wire but easier to handle, cut it to the size I needed, joined it into a tube shape with twisties, and used a couple bamboo sticks to keep it in place around each plant. It comes in different heights but you can also cut down the height as well if needed.

Try Plantskydd, it is a bloodmeal product, has worked wonders on my yard. I live just off of Deerview St and two of my neighbors have rabbit warren's under their sheds.

Vikki, the red flowers are a cardinal vine - real simple to grow from seed - similar to a morning glory. I'm fairly new at this so everything's trial and error for me but that vine is a keeper. Here's a close up of the flowers:

An easy home-made bunny be gone product is two eggs, a drop of dish soap, and water to make a quart. Blend for a couple of minutes and pour into a spray bottle. Spray on any plant the little critters are munching on.

Bunnies hate the smell of raw, rotten eggs. The spray works for quite a while or until it rains.

What a pretty garden and what a pretty vine. I love seeing what others are growing, thank you for sharing.
Sorry about the bunnies. Everytime I read a post like this I am again thankful that I don't have to deal with large critter problems. Now if there was just some miracle cure for slugs!
