my guess would be main crop because they are growing on the new growth(green growth) brebas normally grow on last years wood. but wait n see until some of the experts answer.

If the figs are on green, new growth, not from last year, they are main crops. The figs on last years growth are the main crop.

As for your picture, my guess is main crop.

frozenjoe breba grow on last years wood. From the pictures the fruit looks like it is forming at the base of leaves grown since spring so they are your main crop.

You have a nice looking plant and you should be able to enjoy the fruit as long as it doesn't require caprification.

Yes those are definte main crop figs.
That hardy chicago is a nice tree and you will love the figs taste im sure i have same tree. They will look similar to this one which is ripe from last season ( August 26th )one of my favorites to date but have others i have not producing yet.

Such lovely pix of main crop "figlets" on your Hardy Chicago! Hardy Chicago can produce a light breba crop as plant gets larger. I find that most brebas fall off when they reach a certain size. The loss/removal of the terminal bud seems to enhance the chances of the breba fig remaining on the branch. Interesting that this is NOT an issue with my Desert King. Of course, with that one it is the main crop figs which normally drop off because they require pollination (caprification) in most cases in order to persist and ripen. The brebas do NOT require pollination. This type of fig tree is known as a "San Pedro" type.

Palmfan. Where did you get your Desert King? Do you like the flavor of your fig? I have Black Marseilles VS which produced a few brebas this year but surprizingly, they all dropped. The main crop is absolutely abundant with a figlet at nearly every leaf of the tree.

Leon, my Marseilles VS behaved in similar manner. Its loaded with main crop figlets now. Its in its 2nd year.

A message to Leon. I think that I may have gotten my Desert King from Raintree years ago when I lived on Staten Island, NY, but I am not sure. It is a wonderful fig with huge fruits that are very tasty if one can beat the squirrels to the fruit! The tree has a bountiful supply of large brebas, and a growing crop of main crop figs which for this variety, will become NON crop figs! The tree was winter hardy in NY without any protection, and is doing well here in my far south location in Cape may County, NJ (z7b/8a)
